Wairarapa Eco Farms' pick up evening

DMS
Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Public Seen by 219

W.E.F proposes to use the Tory st space as a vege pick up on Thursday evenings from 5.15-6.45 approx. This would have to be available every week and initially we would also like to hold film screenings/talks biweekly, perhaps increasing up to weekly if popular.

We would provide tory street with a koha of approx $10 and ask for a koha from those attending to add to this further. We could only make this a viable spot for drop offs if we had at least 7 or 8 people, and preferably more. So far we have only one expression of interest from a member, but because it is such a central location we would hopefully pick up many more members.

Before we could commit, we would need to have this confirmed. Perhaps this idea/CSA promotion could be circulated around Tory St and associated Networks email lists prior to this being confirmed.

Good to have the group involved and am happy for this to happen as long as it works around the events already in place ie. Uke! Perhaps another time to mention that one of our policies has been privileging one-off events over recurring ones.

realise the timing may be a problem with the chalkle ukelele fortnightly classes; but i can negotiate timings with the folk at wairarapa eco farms. in the meanwhile i will insert it in the calendar as fortnightly. x

Ukulele instructor here. I don't mind sharing the space for the pickup, as long as the noises don't drown out my ukulele gangstas. The space is large enough that we could facilitate both, I think.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Wed 27 Mar 2013

thanks everybody for your feedback, and suggestions. i have passed this all onto the wef folk. shall update y'all when more comes about. x

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Fri 29 Mar 2013

this is from matt from w.e.f:

'I think the idea of sharing the space with the Ukelele class and holding movies and talks on the nights when uke classes aren't on sounds perfect!

It will all depend a little on how many peeps we can get to switch to picking up in the city or if we can do some promo in the area and get some new members.. which I think is very do-able!'

so, two questions from my side:

firstly, shall i leave this proposed event in the calendar while the new members are being sought? (could take a few weeks)

secondly, is this alternating uke class/vege pick up movie/talk night ok?

x

M

Murdoch Fri 29 Mar 2013

@deeparosemsealy - seems like it will pass, but we're still at the mercy of trying to make sure the space continues on and on and on. Yeah - leave it in - especially if it says that it finished before 7. That'd mean other things could go after if they wanted.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Mon 15 Apr 2013

so we're all up and go.

talked to matt this evening, and he said they have four confirmed tory st consumers and so this thursday veges/fruit will be dropped off in the early afternoon, and then matt (whiting) will come at 5ish and man the fort for a few hours or so!

shall talk about payments after this thursday.

x

M

Murdoch Mon 15 Apr 2013

woo-hoo! sounds good and good chatting to you tonight.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Wed 17 Apr 2013

talked to matt this evening (and gave him a key for the thursday vege pick up) and he asked whether he/they could have vege pick up next week on wednesday rather than thursday as thursday is anzac day.

this conflicts with heidi's yoga class, but i have emailed her and asked her thoughts on this.

also changed, for now, the time slot to wednesday next week (for the wairarapa eco farm).

@deeparosemsealy - was there any confirmation of the $10 per week and possibility of some other koha on top of that?

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Thu 18 Apr 2013

yeap!

matt said he will pay $10 a week for having the space for vege pick up; and if they have an event such as a movie screening etc, they will pay more in that week.
not sure how much more.

currently he is in auckland on holiday, so will clarify payment system etc when he gets back!

yeh?

btw, how do we get people to pay? straight into an account? or cash?

x

M

Murdoch Thu 18 Apr 2013

Straight into the account is best. Nice wheeling and dealing! Do you have the account details? Sure you do...

DMS

sadly no! dispatch them to me! x

@deeparosemsealy - I see that the WEF crew have had their first night. There are four big plastic crates that they left behind - I guess they didn't forget them on purpose, but may have. They are presently sitting out back. Yah - veggies!

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Fri 26 Apr 2013

yeh, the crates aren't forgotten!

i think something happened due to anzac day and confusion? but i will confirm with matt and get back to y'all!

it could also be that the couriers who bring the veges down pick up the empty crates when they are dropping off the full crates?

shall ask matt.
x

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Mon 29 Apr 2013

so a follow up.

talked to matt; he said the empty crates get picked up when the full ones get dropped off every thursday afternoon.

is that okay?

x

M

Murdoch Mon 29 Apr 2013

So are they suggesting that the crates would stay there for a week? At this point there is space for them, but in the future I think we're going to need a better plan or some better position to put them, especially if the numbers increase.

M

Murdoch Wed 1 May 2013

So the crates just got dropped off, not sure how they got in last week, and the courier picked up the old ones. There are only three this week, not sure how it will go tonight at the distribution. I guess we can try and find a place to store them during the week that is out of the way, but we'll need to make sure that it's not blocking too many entrances and whatnot.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Wed 8 May 2013

so i gave a key to matt to give to the couriers a few weeks ago. hope that's okay with everybody?

they drop off the crates in the early afternoon efficiently.

shall pass on to matt that the crates need to be left in a better place. shall seek out a corner when i am minding the veges tomorrow evening.

x

M

Murdoch Wed 8 May 2013

Hey Rose, they have been dropping them off earlier and earlier. Today they were here before 9am. Last week at about 9.30am. It's fine though and the spot they're using, in the three-door section out the back doesn't seem a bother yet.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Thu 9 May 2013

so two people didn't come to pick up their veges this evening. i am trying to get in touch with them, but in the meanwhile the veges are sitting at tory st on the couches as i didn't have enough arms to carry them home!
i should have dealt with them by tomorrow.
sorry about this.
x

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Thu 9 May 2013

will be dropping in at 11am and 5.20pm tomorrow to allow the people to pick up their veges! x

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Sun 12 May 2013

@brandonmikel - i was wondering whether i could ask you a big favour?

on this thursday at the vege pick up i can only be at tory st till 5.50, so would it be okay if you could keep an eye on the veges while you are doing your class?

if not, i can find somebody else.

if so, thank you very much.
my cell number, btw, is 027 236 9797

@deeparosemsealy - the WEF people made a payment a little while ago, but don't seem to have set up an AP. We're looking at signing a new lease soon and we're going to need every dollar. Could you follow up on this, please?

M

Murdoch Mon 15 Jul 2013

Hey @deeparosemsealy - any word from them on this? This week the crates were also just left in the main part of the space - is there someone I should be specifically contacting about this?

M

Murdoch Mon 29 Jul 2013

UPDATE: We've heard back from Wairarapa EcoFarms. Thanks for your work on that Rose. I'd like to hear what people think about whether we should continue to be a distribution point for this given the circumstances.

They said: ross talked to josje and frank (owners of farm) and they said they put in $50 in may, and now they are waiting for the season to turn over, which will be in the next few weeks, before they can financially afford to set up a weekly automatic payment.

things have been pretty tight at the farm, but with their spring season starting in the first week of august, things should get better hereon.

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Fri 2 Aug 2013

and now hopefully the promised $100 has gone through, and the automatic payment has been set up. here's hoping! x

DMS

Deepa-Rose M. Sealy Wed 28 Aug 2013

wondering if the weekly automatic payments are going through the way they should be?! x

Hi I was wondering if anyone had the contact details for the people involved with this? With Fringe coming up there are a lot of shows happening on Thursday night and I'd like to touch base with them to make sure all the veges are collected in the 5:30-6:30 time frame so they don't disrupt the shows.

M

Murdoch Wed 10 Feb 2016

Good thinking, Ea. wairarapaecofarm@xtra.co.nz

Murdoch Thu 11 Feb 2016

Last night at our film screening we had three people come in during the film to pick up their veggies. I told some of the early ones about the next month, but didn't talk to the later ones. It was a real nuisance and I wouldn't want it to happen during a performance. I wonder if we could put any remaining veggies on the stoop with some fabric over them and a sign for the collection. It might also be good to put up a note on the boxes for the next few weeks letting people know 6.30pm is a strict cut off point for the next month and give them the time the performance finishes if they need to pick it up after? What do you think? @aniaupstill @eamonn

That's a great idea Murdoch, I'll email the Eco Farm now!
