Action for Sustainable Development - A Global Civil Society Platform - About

2015 has been a year of significant new agreements; the global community has set out a new set of Sustainable Development Goals that aim to enable a more socially, economically and ecologically just and balanced world view for the future.

The post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals have evolved to encompass the outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference on sustainable development. Further, important conversations about financing for development have taken place this year, and the outcome of the Third Financing for Development Conference in Addis Ababa in July 2015 is important for commitments on financing the new agenda. In December 2015, key commitments were made at the UN Paris Climate Change Conference. The outcomes of these conferences are key to make ambitious commitments and to set the world on track for a sustainable and just future for all over the coming 15 years.

We are coming together as members of global civil society to make the voices of people heard and to hold leaders to account on the commitments they have made, including key commitments on financing and universal implementation. We want the Sustainable Development Goals to translate into real transformative change and gains for those currently left behind.

This groups aims to harness the energy and cooperation that has been created over the past years around the post-2015 agenda, the Rio+20 conference and the climate change conferences. We also want to go further than we have been able to over the past years - to inspire, enable and mobilize people to deepen their participation at the local, national, regional and global levels, and to work together across constituencies and borders in a movement for a just, peaceful and sustainable world.

This group is open to all members of civil society around the world to join. It is initiated by a group of civil society organizations from across all regions, involved in current civil society initiatives and platforms active in the post-2015 process.

This group of interested organizations has been meeting regularly over the past months to identify shared objectives. We have also hosted a number of online conversations and four face-to-face meetings with the aim of ensuring diverse participation from a wide range of members from global civil society. Over 100 organizations, from all regions, have participated in these conversations so far. Now we ask you to join!
