Today's Co-Creators' Call @5:30pm

M Maria Public Seen by 55

Hi all,

Hope you've had a great weekend.

Here's just a gentle reminder for our call later on today @5:30pm.

Ecologist Ian Boyd will be joining us to share how he's 'shaping better places' on the Isle of Wight looking at things like how to use wildlife law to design better habitats for humans too. He's also doing work with the local parish on how to use their budget to change the story a place has about itself so that people can feel they are responding directly to the environmental, social and personal crises.

Ian just wrote a blog on the DA, introducing his work: https://www.thealternative.org.uk/dailyalternative/2021/3/21/shaping-better-places

The agenda is still open for additional topics so let us know if you have something to add.

Hope to see you on Zoom!

Thanks Maria - perhaps we could discuss how to put into action Ian's framework for Shaping Better Places - building natural, social and cultural capital. We certainly need that.
For example, in London the Labour Mayor has launched a Reimagine London programme inviting people to submit ideas about their neighbourhoods: what do Londoners like, what needs improvement.
It is producing lots of general ideas - but there is no mechanism for people to apply those ideas locally.
Conservative MP Danny Kruger has launched the New Social Covenant Unit with one proposition among 12 likely to gain wider political/alternative support "We need a new principle of “community power” to let people take back control of their neighbourhoods’.
But how?

Ian's Place Plan for Ryde highlights the need for many type of collaboration to achieve place-based change.

In our own group COALVILLE C.A.N (Communities & Neighbours) is showing the way in talking over buildings, mapping assets, and build community wealth - and there will be many others.

Could we build on our Citizen Action Network discussions to create a framework for Community Action Neighbourhoods?

Happy for you to bring this to 'the table' David. I'm sure Ian would have some insights to share.

I can't make the Monday Zoom calls. Are they recorded and stored somewhere that I could access them, and watch them in my own time? Cheers, Davva

I have the same issue - Mondays are very rarely an option for me, but it would be nice to be able to catch up with what went on! :)

Hi Davva and Ollie,

The recordings from our calls are uploaded here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1eFnddzSTxrhskfUU__uYZafsER5LmtMS

(This link is also in the description at the top)

I'll upload the one from Monday's call later today. Ian's presentation is definitely worth a watch.

Shame you both can't make it... if there was a late morning or midday call once a month or so would you be able / interested in attending?

Thanks Maria! Will check that out. But yes if there were an alternative time slot monthly that would be grand. Ollie x

Sharing the recording here for now as I'm not having much success uploading (I'm on the road with shitty connection)
