Reform of Economics Education

HL Henry Leveson-Gower Public Seen by 115

Economics education and particularly business school education ignores all form of business organisations except ltd companies with standard shareholders. Reform could ensure an education that is much more rounded and addresses the myriad forms of organising as Martin Parker suggests in his book Shut Down the Business School. Promoting Economic Pluralism is seeking to reform economics education through the co-creation of an accreditation scheme. Please get involved.

You can see more about why we think this is the way to go here: https://economicpluralism.org/10-years-after-the-crash-time-to-stop-expecting-reform-from-mainstream-economists/. Interested in your views. It would be great to get Fair Sharers behind this and involved.

Henry - thanks for letting us know about this initiative. We’re getting to a good place regarding education and can help contribute to www.economicpluralism.org. Firstly, there is now a publicly available Moodle hosted course (free) from the FairShares Institute for Cooperative Social Entrepreneurship (using materials developed by the FairShares Association). It is for people to learn about the FairShares Model / FairShares Labs. The URL is:

http://www.fsi.coop/courses

By June 2019, there will be a second course called FairShares Labs (Train the Trainer). In my university, we have agreed that a version of this course will be used on our MBA Co-operative Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship course for a module titled ‘Learning and Reflexivity for Socially Entrepreneurial Managers’. However, in the first instance we have to finalise it for the FairShares Labs in Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Netherlands and the UK. This is aimed at enterprise educators setting up FairShares Labs - it is a good course for action learning on the social economy in universities.

HI Henry, Rory

I'm keen to stay involved ... grab me directly on my work email for any specific requests.

My tuppence is that we need to structure a FairShares in such a way that it is also Free, i.e., cannot be owned, bought or sold. I'm now calling that an Incorporated Commons, when we have all the elements of a functional commons protected and enabled by incorporation.
