How people join Hackland
I'm gunna propose some changes to how people join Hackland
basically to protect our space from being overwhelmed by lots of new people who break everything and go away
Idea 1 - 'casual koha membership' goes away - we have enough normal members to survive and actual membership is really easy to get
Idea 2 - we only give out the door code over slack, so new people must have slack setup and working
Idea 3 - on the 'Join Hackland' form we ask "What are you excited about useing the space for?"
we also state here that joining Hackland for one off, time restricted projects, is not really the vibe of the space
for these there are plenty of commercial spaces you can hire which are setup to heal all the tools
stuff I'm hoping to fix: 3-4 of our long term members have felt that their tools were in danger and have taken them out of the space
this has left the remaining tools in even more danger and left a bad feeling of 'well I should take mine too then, but I don't want to completely destroy Hackland"
thoughts?

I am for all of this. I have a lot of tools invested and would be happier to see tighter controls.

People rushing to build one thing and then leaving has done a fair bit of damage and we're not setup for this. Plenty of commercial workshop spaces are

I think we can introduce them to the space better - telling them what and how they can do things rather than telling what they cannot do.

Stop long term casual koha membership Closed Tue 25 Dec 2018 7:02AM
We have enough normal members to survive and actual membership is really easy to get, there's no reason for people not to sign up properly

I dislike this one the most - I don't want to discourage people dropping in because they're curious, but I do want to discourage "Cheap workshop for a week" people

Only give code over Slack Closed Tue 25 Dec 2018 7:02AM
To keep it so people know how we communicate, only give people to door code in a private message via Slack, this makes sure they're setup to get messages

This seems easy and I already try and do this, but lets make it a clear part of the process

it raises the bar a bit for non tech / older people maybe? but also how many of those do we have on the door code

I like all these ideas, people that pay membership into the koha jar are even more elusive, so commiting to some transactions and a slack account seems rather fair. Hackland is a hackspace not a rental workshop, we shouldn’t feel obliged to accomodate temporary members but the other way round. Really don’t want another 3-day member dump a tyre on us 3:
