Thread to discuss Platform 6 involvement in and possible support of Open 2018 - the UK platform co-op conference. https://2018.open.coop/

As well as the fact that many of us will be at Open 2018 in London in July and it will be an opportunity for a face to face meeting around Platform 6, I've also been contacted by Oliver Sylvester-Bradley the organiser asking for more information about us. I've sent him our one pager for starters.

He also, from what he'd heard about our objects, suggested that we might want to help support Open 2018 financially. I think that this would be a good fit with what we do and would make an ideal proposal once the platform is up and running.
However we won't have a bank account for a while.

If people are agreeable, would there be a way that we can get a support/gocardless/funding button up on our website and use the bank account of one of our members?

Just so you are aware open.coop has also approached Solidfund for £2000 in either funding or bursary support so they are doing the rounds of everyone I think.

I was going to send an invite to Oliver to join this group as he had expressed an interest some time back (as noted in that thread).

Certainly it would be good to have involvement/exposure at the conference, assuming we are in sufficient shape to go 'public' with the project by that point (I would hope so), but I can't see currently how we could support the event financially?

Co-op Culture has sent a solidarity contribution to Open 2018. There is also an open proposal in the SolidFund Loomio to fund bursaries for people to attend. If you are a member of SF, can you pop over and vote on it as it hasn't had much engagement yet?

Can you put it as a request in the member thread @graham2 ?

I'd one that already, and as far I can see @olisb has joined this group. :-)

Platform 6 will be showcased in one of the Open Space sessions at Open2018.
Friday 27th July - 1.30-2.15pm
"crowdsourcing cooperative start-ups and scale-ups. Mark Simmonds and Graham Mitchell, co-founders of Platform 6, set out the current state of play for this new platform co-op, invite you to join and co-design the future of cooperative development."

@graham2 is also hosting an interesting open-space session on the Thursday:
Cooperation as a Service” - Graham Mitchell (platform6.coop and diglife.com) invites participants to discuss the potential for the platform cooperative model in the world of Free/Libre Open Source Software and beyond.

Although this session was one of my top ranked choices (to make sure "we" got a slot) I won't be able to make it as it clashes with the Patterns for decentralised organising session. Sorry chaps, would have loved to have been a third wheel at the session.

I'm should be at both P6 sessions if you want me to do anything. The Loomio session I would recommend, I went to the full things when they ran it in Manchester.

Definitely recommend the Patterns workshop if you're not coming to P6 - relates directly to the Sociocracy 3.0 discussion in Worker Co-op Loomio
