TASK 2.2 Developing a Social Enterprise Survey

DCW Dr. Crystal Williams Public Seen by 47

In this thread we invite Navigators to contribute their ideas towards designing a survey that could examine the diverse features of social enterprises in Queensland.

To get the ball rolling, the Project Management Team has brainstormed a range of questions that could be included in the survey. Please read the attached document and add your feedback in this thread or email the Project Management Team privately.

To help think about the survey critically you could provide responses to questions such as:
- Is the information we are focusing on in the survey useful to your organisation, and why?
- Is the survey missing questions that would gather useful information?

We aim to have a Final Draft of the survey by the end of June and create a Loomio poll to determine if the survey is ready for distribution. If the Navigators Group agrees we can move onto Task 3: Launching the Survey

Hello all, If you would like to compare responses with 55,000+ businesses globally (including B Corps) you way like to look at if the survey questions are covered in the B Impact Assessment: https://b-analytics.net/content/standards-navigator

Hi Anna
Thanks for this. We’re pulling together suggestions and resources so we’ll add this to the mix.

Hi everyone. May I suggest that we seek some information about timelines to 'success'. I do not know how to word the actual question/s but wish to get a feel about how long it takes for someone to go from 'launch' to 'first sale' ... and 'first sale' to 'profit' ... and these terms may include social and/or financial meaning. I think it is really important for people who are a year (or two ... or seven) into a project to be able to compare their timeline with 'the norm'. It may help to understand if their project may still be a very good project even if it has not yet made a 'profit' - or that it is really is time to stop.

HI @iandaniels
Thanks for insight and suggestions. I've added your comments to our bank of feedback responses and hope we can create a question that addresses this theme. I also think this may be a good Loomio discussion thread.

I agree with @iandaniels there are lots of social enterprises just making ends meet. It would be good to have a question on whether - in the eyes of the owner / entrepreneur, whether they're doing well or needing lots more support. Some rubric like this could be illustrative:
'Thriving"; making sales in excess of my prediction (don't need much support)
'Making a go'; making some sales and on the upwards trajectory (still need support)
'Surviving"; just getting by, only making a few sales, not sure if it's going to work (need loads of support)
'Almost given up'; Things don't look good, can't seem to trade and I'm drowning (need an intervention)
