I wonder if there is an interest until now on founding a sub-group that deals with the future of Diaspora´s UI?! This also depends on whether there is the will of the community to do so.

I think in the long run, a Design Team will be necessary for dealing with UX concepts that people can vote on. However, I think it goes without saying that right now, the priority is mostly under-the-hood improvements, so that D* can work better.

I think the UI is great, for the most part. The major issues are stuff like federation, editing/previewing posts, etc. (as far as I can tell).

I've the feeling a lot of people wanting to get started to contribute have a web dev background. So, learning HAML and SASS/SCSS is easy, if we get some tasks for them to work on that would be a good thing to get used to the codebase.
