Transparency - TBANZ Loomio group openness and visibility

PS Paul Smith Public Seen by 46

The TBANZ group on Loomio was initially created with privacy settings that prevented non members from seeing discussions.

A proposal was put forward to change this so that information and discussions were openly readable by anyone.

Group privacy has been updated so that this group and discussions are openly visible.

This can be changed at any time, if you have cause for concern just start a new proposal.

So loomio has privacy settings for groups, you'll notice we created this with the privacy set to "only members can see the group".

Initially I thought we'd want to reflect the privacy of community weaver for the discussions, however given the nature of TBANZ a private group probably isn't appropriate as there's really no private information here.

I'm proposing we change the group to be visible to everyone and keep this all transparent.

Even though this Loomio group has no formal decision-making power, the discussions and proposals here will shape the evolution of TBANZ, just as the Skype calls have done. I think it needs to be visible to all current and potential TBers.

So I guess that absolutely anyone can read what is here but they will have to be a member to post?

@Lisa
Ae, anyone can read, only members can post, which is why its important to work on getting a rep from each TB signed up.

I really think we need to get in the habit of stating a proposals in active voice or whatever - something phrased so you can respond yes, no, or abstain to.

"That loom.io timebank discussion should be openly visible on the internet" (with more details in the discussion). Not just "transparency".

It's OK to be a bit confusing at low volume, but I feel its important to get this right if we start to have a few more people using this thing, don't you agree?

@Miles Yeah absolutely, I'm still learning the loomio best practice stuff.

I did want this discussion to be the place to discuss all things transparency related but the Proposal title should have been clearer.

Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure it makes it into the tbanz loomio guide as we put it together!

@Paul
Transparency is ok as a title for the discussion, although a little more context wouldn't hurt, but I agree with Miles about the need for very specific proposal titles. This really matters to me as I follow Loomio mostly by what comes through my email inbox.
