What is AGM

FL Fred Look Public Seen by 532

My experience of AGM over the years in many different organisations is that they are often disfunctional, This because of many different expectations of what is being attempted. This year we are attempting something quite new (on-line). This is a recipe for chaos in its own right. If we are going to pull this off we need to work out before hand some consensus of what we expect to acheive. The things that actually need to occur at an AGM are quite do-able. Can we maby agree here on the absolute necessities. figure out a plan to get thru those and then see where we are ? This really is in your hands.

Thanks Fred.

Some questions:

1] do we have a secure way of one person, one vote voting system, so no duplicates or pseudonyms?

2] Is voting on the night, for how many hours if so? Is it over days or weeks? advance voting? etc.

3] We need to publish a summary of candidates, their photo's, and their bios well in advance of voting don't we?

4] What say we have one web page entirely devoted to the candidates, the election, and how about an online running tally of cast votes for each candidate.

5] A system whereby members can chat online and ask questions with their candidates would be good?

Also don't see how up to 1,000 members in a chat room is feasible at this point. Too many voices to cope with.

How to manage it could be the key.

That's it for now, tin foil thinking caps on . . . (;-)

AGM agenda

Let's get a rough agenda together in a collaboratively editable document. A Google Doc? This should give us an idea io the flow of things.

We also need a list and summary of all proposed things for that agenda. I hear constitutional rule changes etc. Can we have those mooted and defined.

Is Loomio the best medium for pulling this together? It's good for determining consensus - but first we need a few things written out in detail.

And yes, Executive elections....

Also, an afterthought.

If there were say ten candidates for 5 exec. positions, perhaps we could all vote for the top 5 candidates each for our ideal exec.

It would also work as a preferential voting system overall, as the total votes cast still tally up to get a top 5 result no matter whether all our candidates get in or not.

One idea is on the list of candidates, there is a check box alongside each person, and we cast a vote for that person, up to 5 candidates.

Wanted to handle this separately.

I propose an amendment to the constitution to allow the Secretary to suspend any elected exec. member indefinitely who all the remaining exec. members unanimously vote as being guilty of conduct unbecoming to the best interests of Internet Party.

This would be best introduced prior to the vote taking place.

That suspension could be lifted subject also by unanimous agreement by the remaining exec. members so that if they feel the person has responded satisfactorily to the concerns expressed, redemption is a possibility.

Those of us who dealt with the aftermath of the last exec. election where an exec. member went rogue shortly thereafter will understand why I am proposing this amendment.

@jobooth , David has opened us on https://github.com/ipnz if you want to use that.

I would like to propose an amendment that any exec either handing in two apologies in a row be given a warning and restricted to only using one more apology in the next twelve month period or be automatically removed from the exec and duties redistributed.

That's awesome we can finally open source our Constitution and policies from the users

I'll be forking my preferred changes to the constitution and proposing it back to the members once it's ready to see which changes you like.

And first a question - the current constitution (onGithub) is different from the original right? And if so, which line of clauses have allowed it to be changed from the original constitution to the current one? - or is the "current" one technically invalid until it gets endorsed and ratified or whatever the process is at the AGM?

Sorry for going off topic from AGM. I know we have another thread on here to discuss the constitution. Also, in the name of Github, we should open source collaborate on the Party vision on there too. Maelwryth did you say there was another optional collaborative software to try out too?...

@williamasiata ...err, did I? Are you sure it wasn't @jobooth ? I think he was talking about collaborating on Google Docs.

I suggest using Google Plus Hangouts, then the AGM will be live on video. A hangout can include a maximum of ten people, but with multiple G+ accounts and the use of tabs a fair number of people could be on-line at once. That will make for a far better meeting than a lot texts. Video on G+ is very resilient when it finds transmission is marginal—technically far more accommodating than Skype—and works well.
