I'm Danyl Strype, a professional volunteer for a range of environmental, social justice, independent media, and digital freedom causes. I blog and collect research on these causes at Disintermedia. I've co-founded a number of commons-orientated projects, from small ones like community newspapers and internet access cooperatives, to larger ones like Aotearoa Indymedia and CreativeCommons Aotearoa/NZ, and I'm currently working as the Web Team Coordinator for Permaculture in NZ.

I'm Graham Mitchell, and I've spent much of the last twenty five or so years working in, with and for cooperatives of various types, including setting up a worker cooperative in 1998 and a community-owned retail cooperative in 2009. The Commons is at the heart of the business models that we need to be developing now in order to create a future worth having. I'm currently working on a food business (nearly a platform cooperative) designed to both compete at scale and to rebuild local food economies. Already running in the US, Australia and NZ, we're aiming to launch this summer in the UK. Also developing and seeking interest in and support for an 'Open Cooperative Development Agency', which we call an Innovation Cooperative: more on that at http://networks.coop

Hi everyone

Thanks Stacco for the prompt. I'm melbourne based, but originally from LA / California. Mexican-American / Chicano.

Over the past 15 years I've been involved in network and community building through the melbourne social forum, local media initiatives and 'integrative' / leadership / sustainability education.

The last three years I helped create the footscray maker co-op. I have just recently launched futureslab.org which aims to support breakthrough social designs and innovation through a p2p and commoning process.

Michel Bauwens brought me into the p2p discourse. My phd work took a post structural orientation toward alternative globalisations - but then centered through the work of Bonaventura De Sousa Santos and epistemologies of the global south and subaltern visions and practice for alternative globalisation.

Strypey, Thanks for the link to WikiEducator, where there is an impressive list of resources for education. I retired from teaching 3 years ago and since then been working on community shares as a way to raise funds for co-operative enterprises, such as community energy here in UK.

Pedro H. J. Nardelli Wed 20 Apr 2016 5:14AM

Hello all,

My name is Pedro and I am working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oulu. I am here because I very very disappointed with my academic life for many reasons. In a nutshell, the career is much more about self-reproduction than social applicability (and strongly related to privatize what should be public outputs).

I am nowadays search for people with similar mindset who believe that knowledge is commons.

I hope to find my place in this community and help in anything that I can.

All the best,

Pedro

ps. About my academic career here
ps2. About a project that I am trying to carry out called Commons University Association

Welcome Pedro. The [OER Universitas], a project of the OER Foundation (steward organisation for the WikiEducator project mentioned above), could be a good partner for your 'Commons University Association' project.

Amazing people here on the Commons Transitions Loomio! Where can we find each other, away from the keyboard (AFK)? I would like to get to know you better, not just via my screen.

I imagine there are some yearly internationally oriented events/fests/conferences where us interested in Commons (etc) get together. Of course there is the upcoming Ouishare Fest http://www.ouishare.net/en/events/ouishare-fest-16-7ca6dce9-38a2-46b8-8c79-f77bf0b4487d

Which other yearly international events are out there you regard as a typical get-together-opportunity?

Heya @jakehansen I'll be at OuishareFest and, a week after, at the D-Cent conference in Madrid. In September, the P2P Foundation organizing team will be at the upcoming Peer Value conference, which we're organizing. (more news about that soon)
