New Fairshares branding and website Closed Tue 24 Mar 2015 8:04AM
The FairShares Association will run a competition to design a new logo and work with Eric Dorien (Mass Mosaic) to update the website. Please note, members will be able to vote to keep the current logo, or adopt a new logo, when the competition is complete.
Hello everybody,
As Rory mentioned I'm one of the co-founders of Mass Mosaic and heading up internally our efforts to transform out organisation into a Fairshares model.
I'm working on multiple funding paths in parallel and as much as the Fairshares model is so solid, the current branding and website isn't currently up to modern standards.
As a web developer for 20 years, I'm am offering to donate my time to help bring this up to modern standards.
2 parts are required:
1) New logo
2) New Website
Logo:
I propose a 99designs.com competition for the logo. I've held many of these design contents and always got an excellent choice of great logos to choose from. I'm certain for the smaller competition price of US$299 an excellent mark we could all be proud of would be created.
Website:
As I said, I'm proposing to donate my labour for this. I propose that the current association site and /wordpress site is merged into the 1 site.
The current association site has a big video educating how to navigate the sites. User Experience (UX) says that the site should be obvious enough to know how to navigate.
I propose that the new site has a clear Why, What and How. I'd enjoying working with all the stakeholders to make sure all existing association and model content, fits into a clear and easy to under navigation.
As far as look goes, I'm proposing a new modern Wordpress theme. They are around US$50.
Here are some examples of the type of design I'm proposing:

http://themeforest.net/item/elos-responsive-multipurpose-wordpress-theme/full_screen_preview/9208674
http://zozothemes.in/desirable/multi/
All of these themes are highly customisable. They have many features that we wouldn't use, but by having them it expands the types of things we can do convey the Fairshares model in the best way possible.
All up their will be around US$350-400 of costs to do this properly. In addition to the time I'm offering to donate, I would also donate $50 to the costs to make it happen.
Look forward to peoples thoughts

I particularly like the first two. I'm also prepared to donate $50 towards the cost.

I am VERY happy about this proposal. I've always thought Fairshares needs a better logo and that the two websites should be one. I can recommend and donate any of the studiopress themes http://my.studiopress.com/themes/

The FS Association has sufficient funds to donate $50 towards the cost as well so we're looking for a further 5 donations of around $50.

We had an excellent meeting with Independent Living Ireland - they will draft a constitution for a new enterprise in Ireland, and we'll both support and visit when they call a conference to discuss further. We'll invite them into this group to join our discussion.

I've also got all the woothemes themes http://www.woothemes.com/product-category/themes/ but don't have an account with them any more and so don't get updates (and I also think studiopress genesis framework powered themes are the way to go).
Elegant Themes are great value too - you get access to all of them for $69 http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/

Hi Josef,
I'm really glad you support the project and thank you so much for your offers of themes. Just had a bit of a look through them and didn't see any that jumped out with the modern multi purpose type themes I added above. But may be needed especially if finding it hard to pull in the required funds.

I'd like to see a simplification and upgrade in quality so I'm in. I'll donate $50 (£35). Of the 3 sites, the first one was best for me (on old kit - the second one didn't load up!)

Thanks David - I've also donated £35 (sent a PayPal payment to [email protected]). I think you can make credit card (or even direct debit) payments using PayPal too. Whichever you prefer.
