Quarterly Projects

The first QP for 2019 is up and running which is to exploit the Food Hygiene Rating dataset to improve POI and address coverage.

The Board would like to experiment with the next QP by adding the task to StreetComplete which should make it easier to survey and edit and potentially draw in fresh participants. For that we need a project with data that is easily and quickly verifiable on the ground and we also need to start early to have the StreeComplete instance working in time.

So.... we're thinking of making the next QP "Ghosts". Ghosts are (usually) retail chains that close or are rebranded and remain in OSM for some considerable time afterwards, indicating an area potentially with few currentmappers, and also providing inaccurate information. Ghost information can be found on Robert Whitaker's excellent resource

In mapping my locality I have been surprised that many Doctor/GP surgeries are missing and looking at the NHS wesite I see that there are many other NHS facilities available bu not mapped. Are these suitable for a project. I do not know if the data is opensource.
We've had a query about tagging DVLA Test Centres on the Talk-GB list - are Government offices suitable to Ghost or add additional tags to aid completeness? I know that Ministry of Justice is closing courthouses and the government in general is reducing its property portfolio - can these be rechecked?

Food Hygiene- All, I tried to edit the Food Hygiene wiki, but from my phone, the page wouldn't allow me to edit, after logging in.

I couldn't see any mention of the useful 'Scores on the Doors' (Android) application. If it's not been discussed already, it may be worth a look, here:

I've added a (brief) mention at the bottom of the wiki page.

Jerry (sk53) has blogged about rooftop solar https://sk53-osm.blogspot.com/2019/03/mapping-roof-top-solar-panels.html and has suggested it (or something related?) as a Quarterly Project.

I'm working doggedly through identifying industrial-size 1MW+ 'farms' on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Renewable_energy_in_the_United_Kingdom and would love some help.

Hi Jez - I've been doing some of the larger solar farms too! I've been in conversation with Jerry and others, and I'm hoping to propose that we do something with it, e.g. next quarterly project. Should I start a new thread, or just write in the end of this thread? (I'm rather bad at Loomio so far)

Good stuff. Just write on the end of this thread if it's re: the Quarterly Project, or post to Talk-GB for general solar chat.... Russ just added a new solar heatmap layer to https://openinframap.org/#6.95/51.071/-2.661 which may help. I am particularly interested in larger (1MW+) ground-based solar, but I know that Jerry has had discussions on small scale rooftop home solar. We can make a joint bid for next Quarterly Project.

OK I'll post to talk-gb as an "RFC" and maybe go to Loomio after that. I've just had a chat with some solar analysts and they've confirmed that it's useful to them to know about small rooftop solar as well as larger solar farms, so anything we map will be useful :)

Discussions into how to translate the Quarterly Project into a Street Complete Quest are ongoing. There are a few options being discussed:
1) Create a specialised Quest for the Ghosts data (would cover < 1000 nodes)
2) Create a more general shops-with-missing names quest (would cover over half a million nodes)
3) Try to help with efforts to create a much more general anything-with-a-missing-name Quest (current blocker on that Quest is how to translate such a general question into many languages in a meaningful way)

Does anyone here have any particular thoughts or opinions or other alternatives to share?

Just to note that the anything-with-a-missing-name quest got unblocked should be live on Google Play by now.
