Collective design & continuous improvement of OuiShare’s governance

MB Myriam Bouré Public Seen by 339

The topic of democracy and governance within OuiShare has been highly discussed during the last summit (see hackpad: https://hackpad.com/OuiShare-Summit-7-Live-Blog-fKiNRuU2Rao#:h=BARCAMP-OuiShare-Organization).
It was decided, collectively, to build a team whose mission would be to facilitate the collective building of a first governance scheme, designed to implement adaptive changes, and starting from our current management model and governance.

This post aims to build that team. This is a call to all those interested in taking part, to raise their hand in the comments section, and join us!
The purpose of this initial team is to start the conversation and facilitate the process; we’ll all work together on the content.

Since the summer holidays are upon us, we are setting a deadline of 3 weeks to get involved, so let’s talk by August 17th.

Step 2 will be to open a discussion (Loomio, Hangout) with the team, to decide on the method we want to use to enable the collective building process of that first governance scheme to move forward, and define the roles needed to drive the process.

Thank you for being part in the design of our collective :)

Guys, 2 suggestions :
1/ Should we move our "casual" conversations on slack, on #management_governance channel? and re-use loomio for our next proposition ?
2/ I wish we could agree before the next HO, what the objective of our HO is / the agenda, so that we really spend only one hour on it, don't you think? I think the 1st HO is here to agree on how we organise ourselves for the next month to work on governance, with

agreeing on the objective of the working group (ie. design a process to make OuiShare a learning organisation / a process to adjust the way we work when required)
agreeing on the tools we use to work together on that (Trello, etc.) and people in charge
agreeing on the methodology we use (with so far inputs from Simone & Myriam)
define next steps

All that is on the document Myriam put together :-). Are we all ok with that?

By the way, I took time to go through all the resources / historic documents Myriam found on drive. I'm really impressed by all the work and discussions that already happened around Governance within OuiShare, and indeed i see recurrent issues! I think it could be really worthfull / usefull if the people that were involved already in that could share what are, in their own mind, the main obstacles that could make this group not reaching its target. This would be for me a great input to decide in the tools and methodology we need.

After last OSSpain Summit our governance leader is @luistamayo ... Luis can you make it to the call on the 10th? Thursday 10th September from 18:00 to 19:00 CEST ... it is a must to connect local ES with global governance models. Ping also @cristobal to keep on track with this

I am interested to keep and eye on this topic too. I think it is crucial for the community and I also think it will be our Unique Selling Point for consultancy to companies. We will be in a unique position of self-experimentation that few other consultants will be able to match.

I would encourage to create a body of knowledge around this (not only the OS "solution" but the topic as a wider problem). I think @francesca already created a personal Ouiki page on this with some key links and references

FYI, I read this summer:
* Lidertarios (see slides: http://www.slideshare.net/tcreativo/manifiesto-lidertarios-49225562). Simple and recommended if you understand spanish.

  • The community book of las indias. Dense (a lot of history and philosophy) yet with some interesting hints. Nice read. Available in English. Free download

  • I am reading "reinventing organizations" (not finished yet)

  • It might make sense to recover Swarmwise that was inspirational for OS early days.

I plan (for my own process of learning) to write a post on OS Magazine about these 3 books... and BTW I think it might be also interesting to write about all this in our Magazine.

Hello there ! @myriamboure @elenagiroli @francesca @thomasdonnebrink @etiennezoupic @jocelynibarra @daviddebelleville @simonecicero @cristobalgracia @nelly1 the 1st HO is planified this thursday at 6pm and for one hour but
* one hour may not be enough to validate a method and organisation for our working group
* simone isn't sure to make it at 6 and propose the start at 5, maybe even in small group, to discuss method. Would you be available earlier and for 2 hours ?

Thank you @maud1 for those proposals :-) I can also at 17:00! And you are right, that is better to plan a bit more time, so if we can book 2 hours instead of one that is safer.
