Collective design & continuous improvement of OuiShare’s governance

The topic of democracy and governance within OuiShare has been highly discussed during the last summit (see hackpad: https://hackpad.com/OuiShare-Summit-7-Live-Blog-fKiNRuU2Rao#:h=BARCAMP-OuiShare-Organization).
It was decided, collectively, to build a team whose mission would be to facilitate the collective building of a first governance scheme, designed to implement adaptive changes, and starting from our current management model and governance.

This post aims to build that team. This is a call to all those interested in taking part, to raise their hand in the comments section, and join us!
The purpose of this initial team is to start the conversation and facilitate the process; we’ll all work together on the content.

Since the summer holidays are upon us, we are setting a deadline of 3 weeks to get involved, so let’s talk by August 17th.

Step 2 will be to open a discussion (Loomio, Hangout) with the team, to decide on the method we want to use to enable the collective building process of that first governance scheme to move forward, and define the roles needed to drive the process.

Hei everyone! Ok, so here is the first (evolutive) team people who answered the call :
Etienne, Simone, Myriam, Thomas, Francesca, Maud, Nelly, Cristobal, Jocelyn & Elena.

As we discussed it at the summit, now next step is to decide together on a method we want to use to drive that collective design process. Can you share it? I propose you all to list on the document the different options/ideas for the method to use for that collective design process. I also started a reflexion on the roles/tools linked to that process.

Oh, and I forgot a question: should we put the governance design process into the participatory budgeting? I remember we discussed about a budget for it during the summit... but I'm not sure... I feel like it's more a core global activity than a "project". Shouldn't it enter the general participatory system?

Ciao! Very Good Job, the amount of work done on governance is daunting. regarding your punctual requests:

  • doodle done (I suggest we set an end date)
  • process for creating the next iteration of governance process: I suggest we use the QUEST process from Nilofer Merchant which is basically 4 phases process,

    QUESTION (gathering information about what we are deciding about + information that contributes to the decision)
    ENVISION (proposing new solutions, merging choices, coming up with possible multiple possible ways to experiment)
    SELECT (evaluate together the KPIs for the choice)
    TAKE (Choose the best proposal according to that + put experiment into action)

  • budget: I think this relates to the thread started by Francesca so I suggest we consider this a governance task, so to be accounted in the global budget (will explain briefly on the other thread how I suggest to start doing)

I would suggest we try to fund it from the "global operations funding pot" that I suggested we create in my last loomio post (and don't find it from the participatory budget)

thanks @myriamboure for facilitating the process and next steps, and for the great review of all existing resources, I will dig into it before the first HO. I don't have yet many inputs on the global methodology we should follow, I just think we shouldn't try to find "the perfect solution" but work more on a learning process, prototype, test and learn, because I'm afraid of spending too much time on theory about governance (even if I do enjoy theory) and not enough on doing!
