Lots of groups already have "members" and would rather let members be pre-approved by their existent system than have to sign up for a new service. Wordpress, Drupal, and especially Facebook Groups would greatly benefit from member pre-approving modules.

Early modules would probably include Facebook Group import, Wordpress, Drupal, evite, eventbrite, etc. Above all, a RESTful API could encourage further development by prospective group members.

I think I agree with you Dan, but the wording of this is wrong. We can't get anywhere by creating an API - we need to adopt existing Authentication API's

I think this could be really good for increasing engagement by making it easier for new groups to get all their members on. But wondering about some more details of how it would be implemented. Dan, are you volunteering to create this?

Absolutely agree with implementing cross platform authentication in the near future, but would like to know who is planning to implement this and see some more research about the best way to go before making a decision!

@danfinlay , can you give a few more details? Are you looking for approval to take on building this yourself? Or are you looking to get this added to the development roadmap more generally?

Hi Dan, great idea. I'm not really familiar with the technical aspects of this proposal - how would such an API relate to a service like OAuth?
