Community development at the roots of society - in NZ

DU William Asiata Public Seen by 392

Let's talk about development at the grassroots of society.
- That is community building, neighbourhood social capital/capacity-building, and community development.
It is the bread & butter foundation to developing all other more complex aspects of the human body politic.

Please see a comprehensive academe introductory text attached in the first comment of this discussion thread.

I also suggest we partake in the building up of an open inclusive grassroots movement that attempts to unite all people in a regular grassroots participatory assembly forum in every locality. (The real life version of Loomio). Just like what the Kurdish PYD has established.

As it builds momentum, grassroots delegates could begin to start showing up in societal positions of office.

There may be examples that resemble this in some of the party movements, however may have a partisan aspect. What needs to happen in this grassroots civil society movement is for it to have inclusive and integrative forces, and without being segregated by divisive partisan factors.

I believe one of the best things that we could do right now is begin working to bring every street, neighbourhood, and township together in a regular open, inclusive, integrative setting. As Bernie says, to begin building the grassroots movement of the people, of all neighbours, regardless of what the government, parties, etc. are doing. This fundamental process will eventually lead to progressive transformations in all other fields of endeavour.

I wonder if this could be something that the we can seek funding and implementation of a policy/act/bill/etc from the government to institute a public system for this to connect between the grassroots forum and crown offices? Could eventually lead to change in the nature of Crown offices, as the grassroots are enabled to better mobilise themselves in a way like never before with positive support from govt.
How awesome would that be.

I am very interested in drafting a policy for this that hopefully some parties or MPs will adopt as something that they want to implement.
Then Occupy, PYD, Loomio, "d-democracy" parties, etc. will no longer be only protest-like platforms, but they will have finally begun to make direct bridges and avenues that more fully realise & establish bonds of reciprocity between grassroots movements and where the "power" is currently legally constituted and concentrated.

Yes let's do this!! Let's also consolidate Loomio discussion into concise GitLab policy.
https://gitlab.com/groups/AotearoaNZCivilSociety

Several steps:
1. Develop a policy reminiscent of the nature of the Occupy movement, Rojava Kurdistan PYD, Baha'i Faith community, etc. whereby regular street/neighbourhood/suburb/township community assemblies (e.g weekly/fortnightly/3weekly) serve as a formal and consistent bridge of reciprocal communication between actual grassroots interests and formal administrative structures of the wider region/nation/country/etc.

  1. [Open] request to parties and office holders to adopt and offer support for draft policy to begin going through the process of becoming implemented into law and order.

Back to town square, greek style democracy works for me. Can't possibly be any worse than the status quo.

Keen as to deepen our democracy. I propose we use Github or a similar app as the repository tool to consciously crowd source the development of the policy while keeping a recoverable backup record of all changes and contributions if need be.

This is effectively what the Pirates are doing already with the removal of the board hierarchical structure, workgroups of interested individuals work best.
