Possible ECA moment at the Commons & Solidarity Economy conference in Portugal?

AME Ana Margarida Esteves Public Seen by 24

Dear all,

I opened this topic in July but unfortunately no one responded. It is understandable, since most of us were enjoying a well-deserved vacation. Still, I would like to invite you to think whether or not it would be a good idea to have an ECA moment at this event that I am organising. It would be important to start thinking about this topic soon and to have a poll here Loomio, especially given that we are meeting next week in Villarceaux.

Should we have an ECA moment on Commons and Social Solidarity Economy, where we would conclude the process of discussion of this topic?

Conference "Solidary Social Economy, Common Goods and Transition: Perspectives of convergence for a sustainable and post-capitalist future in Europe

Place: Cooperativa Terra Chã, date to be defined (three days during the second half of 2018)

Organization: Center for International Studies, University Institute of Lisbon, CEI-IUL (with the support of the Department of Political Economy of ISCTE-IUL and the Center for Ecology, Evolution and Climate Change, CE3C, FCUL).

Communications call:

In response to the current social and environmental crisis on a planetary scale, various social movements are developing alternatives to socio-economic status quo by mobilizing endogenous resources and networking among grassroots initiatives. Within these movements stands out the Solidary Social Economy and the 'Common Goods'. This international and interdisciplinary conference, guided by an action-research strategy, aims to promote a dialogue between researchers and activists from both movements in Europe, with a view to developing theoretical and empirical materials facilitating convergence and establishing common action plans with Promoting socially and environmentally resilient communities. The conference also aims at the critical and reflexive interaction of solidarity economy experiences and the management and dynamization of common goods, such as community waste, process animators and conference participants. The conference will be organized around four axes, for which we invite the presentation of communications:

Infrastructures: Food, water, energy, transport, housing, land / land patrimony and property law (s); Community-based tourism; Culture and leisure; Media and education Of all the communications sent, the Scientific Commission will select 24, which will be distributed by the total of eight panels of communications that will take place during the event. The limited number of accepted communications has to do with the objective of reconciling various types of actors and epistemologies in this event, in order to promote dialogue and joint actions between the academic world and civil society. However, high-quality communications but for thematic coherence could not be included in the panels, they could be included in the Ebooks in which the communications presented at the conference will be published, as well as chapters resulting from the learning processes that will take place during the event. Special preference will be given to communications that include in their analysis the following cross-cutting themes: Environmental ethics and empowerment and self-determination of vulnerable social groups.

We suggest that in the first two days there be a morning panel in which authors and actors gather to promote dialogue between academic research and field practices. During the afternoon, there would be four parallel panels with the communications approved by the call.

Event Outputs: The outputs of the publication will be an Ebook in which the communications presented at the conference will be published as well as chapters resulting from the learning processes that will take place at the conference. In addition, multimedia material will also be made in the form of interactive art videos and installations on a website to be created for this purpose. Conference organizers will also write a paper, based on the event process, about the social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable organization of knowledge production processes. One of the methods will be the application of a questionnaire to the participants.

Yes

Having a year time to prepare it, can involve many people from the Portuguese solidarity economy and around Europe. I can help on that...
