VME Coop now a FairShares Worker Coop

R Rory (FSA) Public Seen by 82

On 28th September, we had a significant event in the history of FairShares. VME Retail Systems, which provides point of sale software to almost half the UK’s retail societies, completed a conversion to a FairShares Worker Co-operative.

Steve Gill posted the following on his Facebook feed.

“Some big news! On Monday 28th September, my 44th birthday, Richard Coyle and I sold VME Retail……to its employees! VME is now officially a FairShares worker coop; an employee-owned organisation with 35 members across 3 countries. I’ll post up more about it soon.”

His next project will be Co-op Exchange, a global project, structured as a FairShares Solidarity Co-op, which will aim to solve the co-operative capital challenge set during the UN International Year of Co-ops.

Watch out for a Co-op News story soon.

Thank you Rory. I can say, without hesitation, that FairShares has been the driving force throughout the whole conversion, which ultimately took over 3 years from idea to implementation.

We have ensured VME Coop is "Coop Exchange ready" by virtue of allowing for non voting investor shares. I mentioned to @Graham earlier this week that I'm looking forward to contributing more on Loomio going forward. I'll be moving part time from next week to allow me to spend more time on delivering Coop Exchange, and to allow the other members of VME Coop to step forward. I hope to get more of them on this group.
