GREETER MANUAL / Greeters Info Collection

S Saskia Public Seen by 64

The greeters are going to point out important information to new arrivals. If your team wants something to be mentioned by the greeters, let us know here!

Greeters are going to welcome new arrivals, perform the virgin ritual, point people to their camps or possible free-camping spots if necessary as well as towards important structures (welfare, first aid...).

Greeters explain and in some cases demonstrate the principles for new arrivals, especially virgins.

We're looking for input especially from:
- The temple team, especially in absence of a guardian lead
- The ceremony team
- Welfare, Security & First Aid about MUST MENTIONS
- Volunteers / Arbeitsamt

The amount of information the greeters give is heavily dependent on the influx of people arriving at the gate. If you lifted some decision-work from our shoulders by pre-prioritizing your information, we'd be glad.
Possible prioritizing stages are:

  • Must mention for everyone
  • Should be mentioned to virgins
  • Super cool to mention but only if there's no time pressure (e.g. fun things that are also mentioned in the program but happen soon)

Mothership:
* There are plenty of dangerous areas on site. Watch your step! We will try to light everything at dark. Be responsible.
* Watch out for each other & better safe than sorry. If you see something, if you are not sure about something - contact a Wonderer (Blue vests) or go to Welfare. Better safe than sorry.
* All the relevant info regarding the lakes.
* Quiet times resolution (to be discussed in the relevant thread)

Anything important to add? @stefanapel @franzi6

Thanks, Daniel! Nothing comes right now in my mind to add, except for telling people about where to find first aid and medics by help of the map, but that has been already mentioned at the start of the thread.
Not of my business, but: maybe something about general fire making rules and the importance of LNT especially at this place since it is a huge and complicated-to-seek area?

I will implement at least a couple of ways to encourage the greeters to interact with the guests & explain LNT in a fun and demonstrative way. Gifts as well as virgin ritual will give opportunities for this, if everything happens according to plan.

From the Wonderers, we only have this to say as Greeters Info:
- to everyone: sign up for shifts! (and better if they're Wonderers shifts  )
- to virgins: that Wonderers exists at all and are recognizable with blue vests.

Here is a link to the greeters working document. Feel free to add and edit. It should be finalized within the next 3 days to be sent out to greeter volunteers. Will gather information at todays mothership meeting as well

Balance of Principles
I do see and read a lot of unbalanced principles. while there are some totally on focus like concent and moop others are ignored, not mentioned at all and even more not filked with life. This is a misbalance in my pov. I would also in addition see advices as a reccomendation and less then „du musst, du darfst nicht, ..)

Edit: But I do all of the manual freiwillig, so well, you are invited to provide a perfect manual for me to implement if you're not happy with my job. :)

Hei Karlo,
the principles will be more balanced, this is a working document. all principles will be laid out & the greeters space will include information about them. We will not exclude any of them. Visual representation in form of signs, invitations to contemplate, talk and discuss other principles will be available in and around the space to encourage engagement with all the principles.

The emphasis on LNT & consent & participation is made because of the high number of free campers and virgins and because they are the principles very dear to me personally. Means: virgin ritual as well as greeter gifting are conversation hooks for those principles.
Additionally, in my POV - if someone is not able to follow the principle of immediacy, that is his/her personal problem. If someone is not aware of the principle of self-reliance it is almost too late at the gate to point them to it (except they can take a ride to Demmin and buy the food they forgot to bring there).
But not being aware of the importance of LNT, participation and consent will put reasonable problems of a number of (especially KBORG & mothership & welfare) shoulders at KB because it is inflicting others in a significant way.

So whereas I personally perceive every one of the principles to be equally important, I feel that a certain prioritization in the limited time the greeters have to greet is a valid approach.

If you have a good idea how to equally engage conversations about all principles in a balanced way without trapping arrivals in the greeter space for a too extended period of time and without it seeming too imbalanced, you are welcome to add them (using comments or here).

The language will be modified to represent advice and recommendations, except it is something that is actually a 'you must not (go into the lake with sunscreen on f.e.)' . Because there are must nots and they should be expressed as such.

I hope that helps. :)

Everybody! Greeter manual is finalized to this point. Make your last suggestions before it goes out via mail today!

Edits afterwards can be done, of course, even on side. But it would be nice to have it as complete as possible.

Calling Mothership, Independence, volunteering and all the others who might want to have an opinion. :)

The manual is great, but I recommend adding page numbers!
