Strategies to make the open app ecosystem real

D Draft Public Seen by 375

Hi everyone !

These past months I've thought a lot about the strategies to make this ecosystem real. I ended up with two.

Strategies

Meet local organizations and list their needs in term of digital tools and make a platform with open source app for them

Pros :
- This can bring money to the ecosystem
- We fill real needs
- Sometimes you have to do things to make something bigger happen

Cons :
- It doesn't create an ecosystem, it uses open applications, it could create it at some point
- It's a long process and we need a lot of resources to do it

Create an event with the CTA to gather every one who's interested in creating this open app ecosystem, and actually make it

Pros :
- We can't be more inclusive and collaborative than that
- The goal would be to create the processes to create this ecosystem, so if we manage, we'll work all together to create it !

Cons :
- If we do this event, it will be at least in one year

Conclusion

I think creating a workshop event (like a hackathon for the open app ecosystem) is necessary. @olisb has done a great job for now to gather organizations in the CTA.

So it can be both. First we codesign the event to work on the open app ecosystem with the organisations and people in the CTA and with people who need this open app ecosystem, and then when the resource is made and we have the processes to work on it, we can meet local organizations to make a platform according to their needs thanks to this open app ecosystem.

What do you think ?

PS : @olisb I don't know what were your objectives behind the CTA, maybe an event was in your plan ?

Hi Remi - thanks for these ideas.

Yes, an event is part of the plan. I co-organized http://2017.open.coop/ in Feb and CTA got a lot of mentions, as did OAE. We're now planning OPEN 2018 which will probably be on the 31sy May and 1st June 2018 in Old St in London (I'll let you know as soon as dates are confirmed) this could be a great place to discuss OAE and CTA stuff, but that wont be the specific purpose of the conference, so we might want to think about organising a dedicated CTA/OEA event too... I'd happily help with that...
