Membership Fees

BP Brian Prangle Public Seen by 40

Until we have agreed the membership fees by resolution at our first meeting membership will have to be free. It's important to sign up with greg marler as you won't be able to vote at that first meeting if you haven't been a member for at least 30 calendar days prior to the date of the meeting.

Membership fees will have to be decided by resolution at that first meeting and we will have to give everyone notice of the resolution, so it's necessary to start the discussion now

First Draft Resolution:

Membership fees will be:

  1. Members £5 per annum
  2. Associate members: 2.1 SMEs (annual turnover< £5m) and public bodies £50 per annum 2.2 Corporate for-profit organisations (annual turnover>£5m) £500 per annum

I assume the founding directors are already members, so we don't need to officially sign up anywhere. Is that right?

Re the fees resolution, that sounds ok to me. I'd suggest mentioning charities / not-for-profit organisations somewhere in 2 (presumably in 2.1) so that it's obvious where they fall.

How do you "sign up with greg marler"?

I've put the sign up form online. This is for normal members (people). For non-voting associate members please use the email address rather than the form. You can find all the details on http://osmuk.org/

Ian, we are going to put the form online so that Greg's work is kept to a minimum. Will do that tonight/this weekend.

That went well. Thank you to everyone who voted and/or commented. We've got good support so this will go formally to the first meeting where I expect it to pass.

To gauge opinion, I propose that we accept Brian's recommendation (of £5, £50, £500) and take this to a formal vote a the first meeting (note: the vote here is non binding)

As a potential SME member that sounds about right to me.

With the proviso that we clarify which fee level larger non-profits / charities should pay as associate members.

OSMF Membership is currently £15/year, so it's not too much to be a member of both.

Later I'd like to have a discussion on joint-membership options with OSMF. E.g. if one-way, the local chapter only has to pay £12 per member.

So that I'm clear we're talking about membership of the CIC? As well as voting rights does that also impose any obligations on members? Like, for example, liability for any debts?
