Running notes can be found here

Participants:
Alli, Rani, Yavette, Aaron, Diana, Tara

Regular Core Team Meetings
* Scheduled for 3rd Fridays 10:30am - 12:30pm
* Will increase frequency of meetings soon
TO DO: Dana to notify all core team members about regularly scheduled meetings

Program Committee Update:
* Open Call for Sessions was distributed, sent to targeted people for submissions
* May 30th deadline, no submissions yet but confirmations from some people that they will submit
* Ensuring that language is less academic and more accessible
* Decided not to define tracks ahead of time and let content determine tracks
* Program content from RFP is for Friday and Saturday
* Activation session on Sunday - need to start on Saturday night after plenary to make it fruitful. Gather people to pitch ideas. Crowdsource / vote 10 - 15 ideas to be worked on Sunday, judge at the end of the day Sunday. If they pitch on Sat. after dinner, they are more invested and come on time Sunday. Won’t be geared just to business. Also arts, movement building, policy change.
* Important to ensure that dinner is available with registration to keep people there on Saturday night. (YaVette)
* Hope - those that aren’t selected in crowdsourcing stick around to help people out on Sunday, build community (Rani)
* Question - should we provide more content on Sunday for those that aren’t part of the Sunday activation session? (Aaron)
* Can’t wait until July to announce speakers. 50% will come from core organizing team, need to lock those in early and start announcing sessions to generate enthusiasm and registratio (Aaron).
* Miss Victory, leader in East Oakland, passed away. We should honor her, invited Kelly Carlisle to lead that. Gail Myers - Freedom Farmers (Alli).
* Dr. Watkins, Director of Dancing Rabbits (YaVette)
* Jose Corona (Alli)
TO DO: Send out an e-mail to recommend keynote speakers (Alli)
REQUEST TO ALL CORE TEAM MEMBERS: Inspire larger LNE Community Group to submit workshops

Fundraising & Finance Committee Update:
* Goal is $13,000 across donations, grants, sponorships, ads. 32% of the target raised! $4120 Committed, $2700 received. See LNE Oakland 2016 Sponsors - “Asks” tab has committed revenues, “Leads” tab has outreach efforts
* Important to bring these in earlier for cash flow until ticket sales / content increases. We are incurring costs regularly as we go and need to be able to keep a positive cash flow.
* Ticket sales will increase as content is developed
* 1 ticket sale so far from Larry Davis, past participant
* This is a group effort, not just on fundraising and finance committee
TO DO: Everyone follow up with your assigned leads at LNE Oakland 2016 Sponsors page, “Leads” Tab
TO DO: Aaron will connect with Kendra to see if she can introduce us to contacts at Credibles, Community Bank of the Bay, New Economy Coalition, Presidio, Listia (all gave money in 2014)
TO DO: Diana will ping everyone to follow up weekly with their contacts

Communications Committee Update:
* Announced conference to listserv, website update, call for workshops, registration is live
* 1000 people like the event on Facebook
* Got list of 350 from LNE 2014 from Chong Kee, sent announcement out
* Crowdfunding campaign - Aaron, Angela, and Corrine said they could work on it, but Aaron is still torn. Needs a video. Has raised $10K twice before.
* Question - is it effective / efficient to do crowdfunding?
* (Rani) Need visual elements (photos, video). It’s something we will need to do anyway for event promotion.
* Have some prizes - Henry George School for SF Walking Tour, etc.
TO DO: Aaron ensure all sponsors and core team members are included on announcements, website, Facebook page.

Core Collaborative Language
Reviewed the draft LNE Collaborative overview, a document to ensure alignment on language about the LNE Collaborative for the purposes of outreach and raising funds, particularly grants. LNE Collaborative is not an organization or 501(c)3, but it needs more formal language beyond the Convergence in order to apply for certain funds.
* VOTE - LNE Oakland Collaborative shall be changed to LNE Bay Area Collaborative
No other LNE in Bay Area. Consensus among those in attendance.
* Address should be House Kombucha
* Executive Director / CEO will rotate for funding applications depending who will be most likely to get us funding
TO DO: Alli & Diana send Collaborative Language to Loomio to vote by Wed.

Final Scholarship Language
Scholarship Opportunities - Limited Scholarships available. In our goal for full representation and inclusion of our communities, the Living the New Economy Bay Area Collaborative aims to support people who have historically faced, and moreover, move to change a system of economic oppression, especially (but not limited to) people of African and/or Native descent, youth of color, and those with roots in Oakland. Please apply through this form by {date}.

See Scholarship Application Language for application questions.

TO DO: Diana put language up on Loomio to vote by Wed.

Thank you for voting! The unanimous vote approves officially naming our group the Living the New Economy Bay Area Collaborative. Stay tuned for another proposal coming soon...

Hi all,

At the last Core Team Meeting on 4/29/16, the group voted unanimously to officially use the name "Living the New Economy Bay Area Collaborative." The reasons for this are:
1) To ensure consistency in referring to the group amongst ourselves and when talking to external partners.
2) There is no other LNE in the Bay Area.
3) We want to be more inclusive of the diverse communities the Bay Area represents and support historically oppressed groups.
4) The group recognizes that many people have already been displaced out of Oakland or have strong roots in Oakland but do not live here.
5) The upcoming event is still the LNE Oakland Convergence because it is located here and leans towards local politics / context, but it is certainly open to folks from other places in the Bay and recognizes we are all inter-linked. Moreover, other communities may learn from and adapt ideas from the LNE Oakland Convergence in their localities.

This vote mostly formalizes what the group has been using, but there have been some inconsistencies across communications internally and externally. The Facebook page for the collaborative is for LNE Bay Area, but we need to update other communications. Please vote by 5pm on Friday, May 13, 2016. An approval indicates that you support the official name of the organizing group and community as the "Living the New Economy Bay Area."

Thank you!

Scholarship Opportunities Language Closed Fri 20 May 2016 12:02AM

Hi all,

The second item that came up for vote in the last core team meeting was the language for scholarships available to the convergence that expresses the collaborative's priorities and criteria for selecting scholarship recipients. Similar to last year, we will offer full and partial scholarships to people interested in participating in the event and would like to prioritize target audiences. A working group convened and crafted language that was brought to the last core meeting, which was slightly adapted to this version. A short application will be included asking demographic information and a few short questions.

The proposed language is as follows:

"Scholarship Opportunities - Limited Scholarships available. In our goal for full representation and inclusion of our communities, the Living the New Economy Bay Area Collaborative aims to support people who have historically faced, and moreover, move to change a system of economic oppression, especially (but not limited to) people of color, youth, and those with roots in Oakland."

An approval indicates approval of the language as is.
If you vote to abstain, disagree, or block the language, please write in the comments your reason and suggestions.

Thank you!
