Hello, I was talking about this at some previous gatherings. We've now got the whole chain together and have opened our olive oil sails. If RR members would like to pre-order some olive oil, due to arrive on the south coast 10th October, I will endeavour to get it to the next gathering for onward distribution. Although that's way up in Liverpool so some other form of punk post may be employed - any suggestions welcome.

I'll post the full olive oil blurb after this. You can also go here:

Our aim is to get enough pre orders to pay the growers the full amount up front.

We are incredibly proud and excited to inform you that in October the first ever Sail Cargo South East delivery of Portuguese olive oil is coming to Brighton.

This wonderful exclusive olive oil is bought for a fair price from an amazing family farm in Portugal (above left) and is maintained without the use of chemical fertiliser or pesticides. The oil is being sailed from Porto to the UK using just the power of the wind, on stunning sailing ketch Nordlys (above right) built on the Isle of Wight in 1873. She has no engine, so people buying the oil can be guaranteed that almost no fossil fuels have been used to transport the oil. Nordlys will need to be towed into port, but once the oil is delivered to Brighton it will be taken by Recharge Cargo bike couriers to people’s doors.

This first sail-powered olive oil delivery to the South East is part of a global movement promoting sail transport as a low-carbon alternative to conventional shipping. The partnership bringing you this oil consists of Brighton based Sail Cargo South East – Sail Boat Project together with New Dawn Traders and FairTransport NL who sail Nordlys.

Find out more about the oil and sail cargo here

We only have 200 containers of 5 litres. A 5 litre container costs £50 at pre-buy price, which helps us to pay the Reigado family upfront. You can also collect from Croydon or Hackney.

If you’d like to see Nordlys arrive in port, jot down 10 October in your diary, weather permitting - we'll send out more details nearer the time.

The future is here, and it’s delicious, fossil fuel-free and fair! Please forward and share this message.

Many thanks from the Sail Cargo South East team,

Karen, Dhara and Crispin
