Tool Library Expansion

JK Jorån Kikke Public Seen by 31

The tool library is growing and needs more space, right now it's kind of just subtly nudging it's borders outwards but recently this has changed to taking over new areas

Lets try and figure out something where we all have enough space, funds etc

Hey thanks for bringing this up. The library is expanding, but we don't want to encroach on member space without consent. That said, I think there are probably opportunities to better use the available space that could benefit the library AND hackland! :) eg better use of vertical space, partitions and shelving.

As an aside, we are really keen to build small shed, 1.5x5.5m on top of the outside area with the white rock substrate, currently home to scrap metal, not scrap metal and a kayack. This could be an ideal space for some of our bulkier items such as lawnmowers, as well as things such as bike trailers that seem to be breeding. Any thoughts on this proposal?

I think this is a great idea, how does ALoT currently sit financially? I like the idea of some of the outside space going to ALoT and some going to trash panda kitchen and general outside storage

Financially we're doing ok, covering rent as it stands and able to buy the odd tool (eg pressure washer). But I think we could be doing a lot better. I would like to brainstorm with anyone who's interested for ways to make the library more profitable/sustainable. Paying more for a bit more space, and/or organising the space we currently have better would be great... Ideally in a way that supports both the library and the makerspace.

Just a random thought re shed, maybe a 20ft container would be an option. That would mean it can be relocated if it becomes necessary at some point. Not sure how the cost compares to materials for a "normal" shed though.

I would suggest the agreement is sought from the landlord/body corporate before building anything significant.

Good point

Joby has given us blanket permission to change the building, but the body corp rules do forbid permenant outside changes. So the movable big commercial bins are okay but the, uh, sign on the roller door is not okay (but yolo) Also it's worth noting that Hackland friendly landlords make up the majority of the body corp

All the more reason to keep informed and on side.

Tool Library is getting more tools and would like to grow, how should we do this? (please add ideas, this is just general sensing not deciding yet)
