Guide to using Tory St

M
Murdoch Public Seen by 431

At one of our recent chats we decided that it'd be good to have an overview of the space to help people understand where stuff goes and to encourage a bit more care about using the space.

Here is the latest version. If you have any improvements to suggest, just add a comment :)

TEXT

The campsite rule: please leave Tory St as good or better than you find it. That means (i) anything you bring in, take with you when you leave - our storage space is very limited. If you want to donate something to us, ask your liaison person first. (ii) Please sweep the floor after your event - there are brooms and brushes in our storage area; (iii) discuss how to hang things on the walls with us before putting up art.

Please stack chairs back against the far left wall. If their feet face the roof they will be able to stack in a neat row. Use the black cloth to cover them.

Toilets and water are up two flights of stairs out the back door. The code is C67 if it is locked. Make sure not to lock yourself out!

The space is free, but we do have our weekly rent paid for by some regular users/friends of the space. If you have some koha or a donation - especially if you’re charging for the use of the space or selling something - please think about giving a little to help cover our electricity, rubbish bags and other incidentals. There’s a koha container in the space or transfer/deposit to: Concerned Citizens Collective
Kiwibank a/c: 38-9011-0874134-00

We have some big restrictions when it comes to noise. A general rule has been to have only acoustic/quiet music. If you’re showing a film or doing any other performance please be mindful that through our walls are our friends and neighbours.

As an open source space we believe in transparency. As such, our discussions on organising the space are open to the public on our Loomio site. Check it out to see how we make collective decisions and if you like it, why not join our group? We are always open to new pals.

It would be great to say if you're serving food or drinks please mop the floor. It can get a bit sticky otherwise. We have some floor cleaning stuff (somewhere - maybe we should keep this stuff in that filing cabinet) and you can fill up buckets in the toilets on the second floor.

I could add something brief about People's Cinema?

M

Murdoch Fri 17 Apr 2015

Got it @eamonn - @jonathanking maybe something about instructions being attached to projector? Anything else?

JK

Jonathan King Sat 18 Apr 2015

@murdoch yep, and something about the window set up, aka not touching it, and that there will be a form/info on people's cinema + concerned citizens website if people have posters they want to get on the monitor

FYI I've just updated the address of this Loomio group so you can access it from 17tory.loomio.org, and I've updated the group description with a few links to instructional threads like this one.

Does anyone know whether the disabled toilet has ever been able to be unlocked, since someone locked it at one point and there is no code?

Print off and distribute this flyer as a double sided a5 Closed Thu 23 Apr 2015

Hey folk, I'm going to put this on for three days - at the end of it I'll update the flyer and then print some off for in the space as well as sending A4 versions to those of you I have contact details for. I suppose I'll print a couple of larger ones up too, to put in the space itself for our edification. Please comment with any suggestions/additions/subtractions.

@jonathanking - can I put your email on for people who want to put their forthcoming event on the People's Cinema window display?

KW

Kowhai Wheeler Tue 21 Apr 2015

A recycling blurb: We love recycling, there are 3 bins, 1 for glass/bottles, 1 for paper/cardboard, 1 for plastics - we welcome all these things and more during your use of the space please say hello to our recycling system! Tuesday evenings is recycling night, the Council likes as much recycling as we can give them.

There's now a form up at peoplescinema.org.nz (http://www.peoplescinema.org.nz/#submissions) for people to submit images to go in the display in the window. I'll get @richarddbartlett to add a link to this to the tory st submissions form too!

@lucywheeler - I'm trying to find a good way to ask people to take out everything they bring in. Sometimes the recycling builds up and it all gets a bit stinky so I'd prefer the bins to be last option as we don't have a dedicated person to put this stuff out on the Tuesday.

This is the current view of the document. Still 24 hours to tell me what/where to change it.

There are a range of groups using our space who pay our weekly rent. They have some materials in the space that we hope you’ll respect and not touch. For example, please don’t move the People’s Cinema display in the front right window, and don’t go into the theseehere window box. If you want to advertise your upcoming event, please submit it at peoplescinema.org.nz

Cool, nice @murdoch perhaps then we could say along the lines of .. i) anything you bring in, take with you when you leave, this includes any items you use for your event, and rubbish and recycling that may result from the event - our storage space is very limited. If you want to donate something to us, ask your liaison person first. Or something in that blurb :)

JK

Jonathan King Wed 22 Apr 2015

@murdoch Looks great, can you just change "please don’t move the People’s Cinema display" to "please don’t touch the People’s Cinema display" and add something in there about the People's Cinema projector instructions being attached to the projector?

M

Murdoch Sun 3 May 2015

Updated, double sided A5 version (two-up on A4).

RDB

Richard D. Bartlett Sun 10 May 2015

Hey @murdoch is it too late to suggest you add 17tory.loomio.org and concernedcitizens.co.nz to the flyer?

M

Murdoch Sun 10 May 2015

@richarddbartlett its not too late. I printed off about 60 of them and they're in the draw at the space and lying around, but an updated version could feature on the Proposals section of the website - could maybe be pinned on the FB page too?

RDB

Richard D. Bartlett Sun 10 May 2015

Suggestion from Rose: we should add a line like "You can access the internet by using the wifi network 'CBD Free'";

You keen to add that at some point @murdoch?

Cindy Jemmett Wed 16 Mar 2016

Hi @murdoch, are we able to issue receipts for koha? ie if a group needs to show WCC where the grant they received from them has been spent etc
Thanks

Yes @cindyjemmett I can do that if they email me: murdochstephens@gmail.com
