PrivacyYathra campaign to promote federated social media

PP Pirate Praveen Public Seen by 282

We have organized Diaspora Yatra in the past (https://poddery.com/tags/diasporayatra) were we traveled across Kerala and talked about diaspora. I think its high time we do that again, this time expanding the topics to cover matrix, mastodon and other Free Software replacements like NextCloud.

Diaspora Yatra website from wayback machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20181104112901/http://yatra.diasporafoundation.org/

Update 1: We have a matrix group now at #PrivacyYathra:poddery.com and we already got our first invite.

Update 2: We are using etherpad attached to the matrix group and gitlab issues (https://git.fosscommunity.in/community/privacy-yathra/milestones/1) to track status of specific tasks before we can launch campaign. Looking for volunteers to take ownership of these tasks.

If secure communication tools are blocked, terrorists can't use them right

  1. How do you block all secure communications tools? Won't it block our government or business that needs secure communication tools (even assuming the citizens don't want it) 2. Why don't we all live in jails to protect ourselves from terrorists?

Isn't that the reason why many countries like Iran have blocked tools like Telegram

In countries like Iran, Soudi Arabia and China people have no rights. They don't want to allow any dissent. Dissent is essential for democracy. Do you want to live in a country like that? Do you want everyone opposed to Modi and BJP jailed in India?
