BUG REPORTS and QUESTIONS/CONCERNS about the new Janeway platform

BC Bruce Caron Public Seen by 124

We are the first preprint service on this platform. SO there will be issues that pop up. Please, if you find any GUI glitches, or have any questions or suggestions, put them here, and the CDL folks will pay attention.

Thank you for the invitation. I’ll do that.

Hi, just some feedback from my side:
- when registered my new account had to try many different Pws before the system accepted one. Continuously reported that the Pw was too short but the minimum length is not indicated;
- After registered, I am not able to access the system - not sure why but it seems doesn't recognize my US or Pw.

-Tried to reset the Pw but never received the link to do it (Blocked my the server of my University as spam?). The US is correct because if I try to register again using the same email it says that an account using this email already exists;

- Tried again to reset the Pw but now when I click in the box I am able to see other email accounts (probably of other people trying to reset their Pw?). This means that the system in some way keeps trace f what inserted and this becomes visible to others...

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Domenico

Hello Bruce

Thank you for the invitation to review the new system. I tried to login using ORCID this morning but fail.

  1. when I first logged in using ORCID, there was a warning sign with red fonts. I forgot to capture it.

  2. when I logged in to my ORCID account, then logged in to EarthArxiv, then there was this error (watch the video), saying "unregistered account". So I was asked to sign up using email.

I noticed on the submission instructions there was no instruction for authors to put a header on their preprint (something like e..g. 'Please note that this is a non-peer reviewed EarthArXiv preprint'). I also noticed on the newest preprints that have been published that there is no marking on the pdf that these are preprints. I am wondering if this is intentional? — both the lack of a requirement for submitting authors to flag their submissions as preprints, and the lack of a eartharxiv supplied marking on the downloaded preprints?.. Maybe i missed this being discussed someplace?

I thought this type of prompt/watermarking was one of the key requests we made when we have the meeting with CDL and Janeway? As discussed on recent threads/posts, it’s one of the main time sinks for authors and moderators!

I just want to say also that some preprints have their own form of a 'preprint notice', but it's not consistent and the first 4 or so preprints i looked at did not have it. The preprints w/o the heading have a DOI suffix suggesting they were from OSF (osf.io )... so maybe this is just related to the transfer process...

If it was, this wasn’t communicated to me.

I remember a discussion about how the Python PDF tools would help automate this (at some point... but not in the first release), but until then, the authors would be instructed to do this. The CDL folks are going to edit submissions home page to have a link to the full moderation policy page with admonishment that the author is responsible for reading and following that.

Quick Q: Do you want a full cover page with logos and stuff and stitched to the top of the author PDF or just the line edited to the front page of the existing pdf?

A future feature request 🙂.... not on the critical path for 1.0
