Keeping the space more clear of big stuff
It's good to have a bit of space to build projects in, and it's good to store some projects in the space. But stored projects can become forgotten and start to take over which means there's much less space for everyone.
Lets try and figure out a system which is easy to understand and makes more of a balance between these things

charge for storage Closed Mon 29 Oct 2018 10:02PM
every member (currently) gets an equivalent bin-sized space on the shelves. however there are also lots of massive piles o’ junk belonging to folks that are preventing new members from getting space to put their bins. a cluttered space may also scare away new members. proposed: if you want more storage, there are areas set aside for rental for large projects at a rate of around $15 per week

Perhaps the price could reflect size & demand - small slots cheaper, and if noone is using it make it cheaper too?

This is hard to enforce and can’t be enforced by everyone (needs someone with access to accountants check). While an storage area with labelled items and dates can be „policed“ by any member.

Current space abuse is already in violation of the established group norm. I doubt that asking space wasters to pay for future space wasting is going to stop people from littering the space.
I think this mostly is a communication issue. Hence I prefer there colourful lines to fence non-clutter spaces. Also colour! We could also colour-code or label dangerous areas or places that are supposed to to be protected from dust. Or just print a manual for the space of the floor.

I like the idea very much and keen to test it for a bit BUT before we roll it out could we decide on 1/ What space could we offer for large projects, since currently there is very little free? and 2/ How do we enforce people to pay for their space / move it out when they don't?

Abstaining because I'm not around. Seems reasonable though

I think it makes sense to try the 'free storage but must have name +++ date' area down stares along with a premium paid storage area upstairs in the back room

Edit: I think we can give people the option to pay more for storage but I generally feel like we shouldn’t become a storage facility. Suggestion: First option is free storage for active projects in marked zone. If x time passes (8weeks?) members can point project out and suggest storage option.

we could use lines / stripes of color on the floor to make out "this is a clearspace" areas
