policy for online discussion and decision making

TS Torsten Steininger Public Seen by 6

I think that this tool could be a good device to delineate discussion processes and the decision making process, esp. for the Exbo when there is a tendency not to meet too often. But first we should try it out and also have some expectations of how this tool should be used.
On the SMT agenda, there is a link to the youtube film about the system.

I think we should have a guideline about e-behaviour as well as what and when we expect a contribution in an electronic-based discussion.
My suggestion would include something like "appreciative reaction to somebody's comments", "openness about interests in an issue", possibly agreeing to make time to look at the "loomie" discussions at feasible intervals. Taking over responsibility for participating - and not participating.
I do not know yet how to keep different discussions successfully apart if they are interlinked.

Anything to streamline discussions is useful. As discussed this morning, the challenge of trying to track discussions through email is a nightmare, especially as often emails contain responses to different discussion topics! I also appreciate that Loomio states it will store the discussions, meaning we can go back to them later.

The e-behaviour is long overdue and could start with an enforcement of the email policy that MH sent out last year. My experience is that hardly anyone follows it, esp. with respect to the length of emails, the need for courtesy and the use and understanding of cc.

I would appreciate, if we also include a restriction on communication channels? dropbox, clouds, googledoc, sharepoint, loomio, moodle, multiple network drives, etc. are simply too many channels to maintain and take care of. I really get lost with all those options (maybe getting too old...).

Maybe, Jochen, it would help to get an overview who is using which tool for which purpose? And perhaps it is necessary to include into our daily schedule some time to monitor the different tools we are using.
@ Iain, I share your dis-enchanted view on the application of the email policy, and would add that we in SMT are also setting a bad example in sending out mails later than 6 pm (maybe unrealistic time, should be 8pm, but except the cover planner, nobody else should engage later than that). This negative behaviour forces our staff to be alert longer in the evening.
