Piratelab to one entire day every 2 months: "We are in the urgence of taking time"

J Josse Public Seen by 24

As there is less people on the piratelabs because of transport vs time spent, we (piratelab 29th of July) thought it to be a good idea to change the formula of the Piratelab to one day every 2 months instead of half a day every month, and we put the next Piratelab on the 30th of September in Gembloux from 10 am.

I find this surprising!

The labs happening in Gembloux seem to work quite well, so I'm not sure about changing it. Maybe it's only the lab in Mechelen that needs another location? (also, it's holidays now). If it were up to me, I'd also keep the monthly rhythm, which doesn't mean I would participate every month, but nobody has to do that, right? Other than that, a whole-day lab could be cool, even though it would also be practical to keep the possibility to just come a half-day (at 2PM).

Is it possible to have some more details about this "coordination project" that is mentioned in the pad? Is it something like launching a new workgroup to coordinate something, or to transform the lab in coordination group?

Thanks for the effort, the notes, the transparency :)

I agree with @vanecx : I would keep the same frequency (once a month), and do time to time a mega lab (one every two or even three months ?). The idea is that we don't need to have a lot of people at every lab either, it's ok if there are only three attendees although I agree it can be a bit disappointing for those who made the effort to come. Also, keep in mind that we are in holliday. Last lab where there were a few people, it was the student exam period... So there is that to consider.

Thanks to those who were there !! :)

Having more people for one whole day is interesting to get things done and to get more people involved in real projects.

Do you want to do a mini-lab the 26th of August still then? As there is also the bbq the 19th

Well I hope that we will be able to do a "normal" lab, that is more than 5 people, but yes I would keep the Pirate Lab of August. I think this won't be in conflict with the bbq as it is one week after, and it's in Gembloux while the bbq is near Leuven, etc. So not the same target audience I'd say ;)

We thought to do September in Gembloux...

What I suggest is the following : We will need to prepare the "whole day lab" of September, so I suggest to do this during the lab of August. Because this special lab would need coordination, for the food and the agenda for instance.

For the location of the September Pirate Lab, I don't think this does really matter. We could do it in Mechelen, hoping to bring more people with this new format.

I see two questions then:

1) Why are there fewer and fewer people in labs?
2) What purposes do we see in labs today, and do they require meeting monthly?

Maybe the bbq is a good opportunity to ask around why pirates are not coming anymore?
I agree that holidays and exams explain some absences, but not the fact that so few crews are represented. Something is not working anymore, while labs had initially a function of intercrew meet-up.

Now personally, a lab every two months sounds a good idea and I would have more chances of having the time and energy to join. Also, this gives more time for other projects to get things done and start to live in between two labs (remember labs are project incubators).

But that's not true ! Last lab (in June) we were more than ten ! So there are not fewer and fewer people who are coming to the lab :/
