New Year Brunch

As discussed during last lab, we decided to organize an informal moment on Sunday 21st January 2018, in Brussels (De Markten).

Reservation of the room is ongoing (~ 150€)

In short, the event would be in two parts :
1. Potluck-brunch
2. Drink

Details can be found in the reporting of the lab, and will be also on the wiki page of the event.

This is a purely informal event, where pirates and friends can meet and talk about whatever they want to talk ;) This can be to discover new people, rebuild the world, exchange ideas, debates, etc.

This event would be the starting point for the next GA process (6 weeks before the GA, we make an announcement so that people can send their proposals, according to the statutes).

  1. Define the opening and closing times : 11am - 4pm
  2. Make the reservation (Hadrien) : ongoing
  3. Find a good name for the event

    • Nieuwjaarsbrunch
  4. Create the wiki page Done
    1. Translate in Dutch (and in English?)
  5. Create a pad for the potluck and registrations Done

Je suis allé me renseigner pour les salles au De Markten. Pour eux, c'est ok le 21 janvier, mais le Lions Clubs International organisera un évènement le même jour. Ils ne sont donc pas sûrs d'avoir suffisamment d'assiettes / couverts pour tout le monde. Ils me contacteront quand ils en sauront plus.

Voici donc la liste des prix de chaque salle (pièce-jointe). D'après @josse nous tombons dans la catégorie C (je vais leur demander si c'est exact). J'ai vu quelques salles, et je pense que la Spiegelzaal (Salle aux miroirs) est magnifique, mais hors de prix :p La Middenzolder est bien, j'ai juste un peu peur au niveau des tables (nous avions décidé qu'il nous faudrait des petites tables, en mode café, pour que les gens puissent discuter tranquillement). Idem pour la Achterzolder. Enfin, je n'ai pas vu la Zwevende, mais elle m'a l'air bien aussi. Si on réserve de 10h à 17h, c'est le même prix que Middenzolder ou Achterzolder.

Pour l'agenda justement, je proposerais :
* On commence à accueillir vers 11h,
* Brunch à partir de 11h30, jusque 13h
* Drink de 13h à 16h
* On range / nettoie jusque 17h


I went to the De Markten today. For them, it's ok on January 21, but the Lions Clubs International will also organize an event on the same day. So they are not sure if they will have enough dishes for everyone. They'll contact me when they know more about that.

Here is the price list for each room (attachment). According to @josse we fall into category C (I'll check that with them). I've seen a few rooms, and I think the Spiegelzaal (Mirror room) is beautiful, but very expensive :p The Middenzolder room is fine, I'm just a little worried for the tables (we decided that we would use small tables, in a café-style, so that people could talk quietly). Ditto for the Achterzolder room. Finally, I haven't seen the Zwevende room, but it looks good to me too. If we book from 10am to 5pm, it's the same price as Middenzolder or Achterzolder.

For the agenda, I would propose the following:
* Welcoming around 11:00am,
* Brunch from 11:30am to 1pm
* Drink from 1pm to 4pm
* Clean up till 5pm

No ! We need to decide if the pricings are ok for us (about 150€), and to choose the room. For the category price, I sent a mail yesterday but I guess I'll have my answer on Monday.

For the Lions, they will check if they have enough dishes, but otherwise we could find alternatives, like bringing additional dishes, etc. It's not a real problem, just a bit annoying.


Non! Nous devons décider si les tarifs sont ok pour nous (environ 150€), et choisir la salle. Pour la catégorie de prix, j'ai envoyé un mail hier mais je suppose que j'aurai ma réponse lundi.

Pour les Lions, ils vérifieront s'ils ont assez de vaisselle, mais sinon nous pourrions trouver d'autres alternatives, comme apporter de la vaisselle en plus, etc. Ce n'est pas vraiment problème, juste un peu ennuyeux.

How do you want to decide if it is ok? Some could pre-finance if you are not sure. I would be ok to do it. We were also ok at he piratelab to organize the event.

First, I have the confirmation from De Markten that we are in the category price C.

At the lab, we chose De Markten because we estimated that the price would be about 50€-75€. But here, this costs a lot more (150€), that's why I'm asking if this is okay for everybody. For instance, I discussed with Jean-François today, and he also thinks it is quite a lot. We could quickly check for other rooms in Brussels.

Hm I don't know, I'd say we can work on consensus : if someone disagree with the proposition, she or he can say it and explain in which way they disagree.


Tout d'abord, De Markten m'a confirmé que nous sommes bien dans la catégorie de prix "C".

Lors du lab, on a effectivement choisi De Markten, mais parce que nous pensions que le prix de la salle serait aux alentours de 50€-75€. Or ici, c'est beaucoup plus cher (150€), c'est pourquoi je demande si c'est ok pour tout le monde. Par exemple, j'en ai discuté avec Jean-François tout à l'heure, et il pense lui aussi que c'est cher. Nous pourrions regarder en vitesse pour d'autres salles à Bruxelles.

Comment veux-tu décider si c'est ok ?

Hmm je ne sais pas, je dirais qu'on peut fonctionner au consensus : si quelqu'un n'est pas d'accord avec la proposition, qu'il ou elle le dise et explique en quelques mots la raison.

I also think it's quite expensive, but not exaggeratedly, especially if it's such a nice place, and we can afford to pay it without ruining the party. So I'd say we go for it, otherwise we'll have to look for other places and it might take us time/energy while we already have a working solution.


Je pense aussi que c'est plutôt cher, mais pas exagérément, surtout si c'est un endroit si agréable, et on peut se permettre de payer ça sans ruiner le parti. Donc, je propose de choisir ça, sinon nous devrons chercher d'autres endroits et cela pourrait nous prendre du temps ou de l'énergie alors que nous avons déjà une solution prête à l'emploi.

Thanks ! I agree that looking for other places would be exhausting, especially in december where everybody is already quite busy.

SO ! I will make the reservation tomorrow at De Markten (basically : fullfil the form), for the Middenzolder room. I'll ask for small tables, but I don't think they will have that, but again that's not a real problem.

Those who disagree with this (which is good), please talk now !

Note that we always can cancel one month before the event day, but well I would prefer to avoid this option :p


Merci ! Je suis d'accord que chercher pour d'autres lieux serait épuisants, surtout en décembre où chacun est déjà bien occupé...

DONC ! Je vais réserver demain* à De Markten (en gros : je remplis le formulaire, le paiement viendra plus tard), pour la salle Middenzolder. Je vais leur demander s'il y a moyen d'avoir des petites tables, mais j'en doute. Mais bon, ce ne serait pas vraiment un problème non plus.

Que ceux qui seraient contre cette décision le dise maintenant !

Notons qu'il y a toujours moyen d'annuler 30 jours avant l'évènement, mais je préférerais pouvoir éviter cette option :p

Cool, so we can already think about a name. As it would be something where we think informally about the Pirate Party's renewed way of thinking and a pre-warm-up towards elections, I would call it "Inceptionize"

Ok, I sent the form today (sorry, yesterday I forgot to do it -_-'' ): As I don't know if we will need drinks, or if people will bring their own, I didn't order any drinks yet. I guess we could change that later anyway.

I put myself as organizer, I hope I won't be alone for that though :p I entered my postal address, phone number, etc. I can advance the money, but I hope I will see this money back someday ^

For the name... I don't like Inceptionize, this doesn't tell much about the event, and it is really geek. That would be great if we could have something convivial. I don't have an idea of name at the moment.

Let's say we need a good name before 21st December, so that we have one month for the communication.

The simplest name is simply: Nieuwjaarsbrunch (brunch de Nouvel An je dirais). (and you can come later after dinner if you would have slept longer) I could bring some wine maybe. (drinks free?)
