OuiShare Birthday step 2

MAG Marc Arthur Gauthey Public Seen by 504

Hello team,
Thanks a lot for sharing OuiShare's video last week ! 15k view in 24h is not bad at all ;)
You probably noticed : we wrote an article for OuiShare 4th birthday and published it in Eng / Fr / De / Spa in the mag yesterday. I hope you recognize yourself and Ouishare's spirit in this text !

Please dont hesitate to like & share it in your professional & personal networks on facebook, twitter, G+, Linkedin and so on.

Let me just remind you that the more we do this effort to gain visibility collectively and share our vision with articles and other content, the more we will get interesting opportunities and recognition together !

Have a good day !

Marc-Arthur

Thanks Marc-Arthur, I will take time to share it of course! Thanks to you and all the other people who took time to work on OuiShare's birthday communication.
I just wished all the connectors could have been involved one or a few steps before in the process; of course there is nothing really controversial in what has been written, so it's unlikely that I would have disapproved the article. And I also very understand the need to be efficient and work in small group for any project. But discovering an article that is co-signed by me at the same time than everyone else makes me feel a bit unconfortable. Maybe the next time there is a wide communication in the name of Ouishare, we could take that time to share the intention internaly and make sure we're all aligned with it, or just aware of it. I'm sure that then spreading the word would be even more efficient

Do you want me to delete your name in the article ? Sorry if you fell uncomfortable. FYI, at the beging, I planed to sign it only with ouishare cofounders. But then, we decided with Fran to make everybody sign so there is no "hierarchy" or reproach that the co-founders, or oldest connectors, or the Paris team, or whatever, brings all the glory of being 4 years old for themself. The idea was to show that it is inclusive, and that OuiShare is made by people. But apparently, this doesn't make the job neither. So, sorry for not being collaborative enough. Next year, dont hesitate to do it as you think it should be done. OuiShare will be 5 years old soon ! Best.

Of course not, and sorry if it sounded this way! I think it is really cool that it is signed by all connectors and that makes totally sense! But as we are in permanent beta i just wanted to make a proposal on the process. I hope it's allright.

Hey Marc-Arthur,
Though I understand where your and Fran's input comes from, the problematic you mention, the one concerning hierarchies, reproaches, longevity, or glory, actually comes to exist (arrives) after actions like the birthday communications effort, not before, thus nothing you have done can be considered non-collaborative.

In other words: where OuiShare is now, the problematic you mention happens when/after something is made public; it is not solvable through the effort of "being collaborative enough" before publication.

Since I too found myself uncomfortable signing a video that starts with a shot of JFK, says nothing about what we –as individuals– do, and seems to make your effort feel unappreciated, here are my reasons for reacting:

  1. The video might say what OuiShare has done and the topics we develop, but in your reply to Maud you have confused "a brand message" with "a message about the individuals that make the brand."
What OuiShare does is not what I do; what a brand does is different than what an individual does. You mention that the idea behind the video is that OuiShare is made by people, but the video says that OuiShare is made of topics.

  2. Because I don't have access to the data or information that led you to solve a need by creating a video with this message, I can't know how to measure its impact.
The number of views in itself isn't useful unless it's compared against another set of data. Since communications are activities covered by the global budget, we can assume there's a strategy behind this move, and that data analysis was considered.
Perhaps, to avoid attaching incorrect assumptions to behaviors, we can wait for a final analysis from your end?

  3. We haven't addressed what to do with the effects of the messages we send to the world. We don't have measurements to determine how these communication efforts help us, nor a plan on what to do with the response we'll get.
This is also part of communications, so perhaps you can help me understand the plan, process or systems you had prepared for when external reactions arrived?
I agree that the more we gain visibility together, "the more we will get interesting opportunities and recognition together"; now it's turn to address your quote: How do these 15K views that you envisioned (and ultimately obtained) are being translated into getting opportunities and recognition for individuals?

Thanks!!
