Why are there 2 Diaspora Project sites?

RS- Robin Stent - Outreach Public Seen by 70

There is diasporaproject.org and diaspora-project.org

Why is that? Very confusing.

diaspora-project.org is the new one. Sean will create a redirect from diasporaproject.org to the new one soon hopefully.

We don't own diasporaproject.org domain so we cannot rely on it in the future.

I'm sorry to say this, but the new site lacks the aesthetic of the old one, probably due to the Drupal theme.

The new one is very much a work-in-progress. The old site was mostly just put together using Bootstrap and Rails.

There is a Bootstrap Drupal theme called Tweme that looks interesting; I wouldn't mind basing off of it in the future, depending on how active the project still is. It's interesting because it actually makes an effort to really use Bootstrap, rather than mimicking it through CSS.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for style, layout, etc, keep in mind that I'm willing to consider implementing them. Currently I'm doing the project site mostly by myself, with some help on the wiki from Raven.

If anyone would like to help out to make the site better, please let me know. :) Bonus points if you're familiar with Drupal.

I don't know Drupal but I know HTML5 and CSS3. I said weeks ago that I will contribute, but I didn't find time for it...

My 2 cents about the actual design : for me, the black header is too big, especially when you are logged and that another one appears on the top. I think the text "the diaspora project" should be displayed another way to save height space, and the logged header should be merge with the existing.

Same remark for footer. Finally, the content seems blocked between the two black div.

In the thread that Goob linked to, Sean mentioned trying to talk to the domain owner for diasporaproject.org then trying to back order the domain, but there's no indication of what the result of this was. Sean?

Hyphenated domains are horrible, if we can get hold of the other domain it would be much better.

I haven't backordered it yet, but it's on my to-do list. Talking to the domain owner yielded no results, so I'll be looking at backordering this week, if I can afford it.

So did you get a negative response or no response at all?
