PPBe topic : Animal rights

H HgO Public Seen by 38

I propose to create this thread following this question from our contact address :
>Could you please tell me exactly what is the position of the Pirate Party regarding animal rights?

I'm quoting our basic text:
>Pirates respect all forms of life
>Pirates are tolerant and peace-loving: they oppose the war and reject the death penalty. Moreover, they are committed to the protection of our environment and for the dignified treatment of animals. Pirates stand for sustainability and the preservation of the nature.

I personally find this definition too vague. Therefore, the purpose of this thread would be to position ourselves on the animal rights topic.

Very simple to me: Gaia is right on everything... No need to reinvent the wheel.

I think Gaia tends to think too far beyond "dignified treatment of animals". I am in favour of supporting the well-being of human beings first (which does not mean we should torture animals needlessly), but sometimes people seem to love animals more (admittedly, I am not a huge animal fan) . The question as with every question should be how we would decide with this with everyone (real democracy) and not seeing it as a technicality in a program or basic text and then presume that we will have this as a meaning. I think the environmental impact is more important and how we could change our total agriculture to something that is better for everyone. Something where you could get when you give people the freedom of a basic income and their democratic say. (which are the basic things to start with instead of letting us bother with a specific program: empowering people so we will better ideas together) (maybe that is a good slogan: better ideas together)

Well, that's exactly what Gaia wants... Not torturing animals needlessly. Concerning the environmental impact, meat produces more pollution than cars (or transportation, I don't remember). Anyway, stopping eating meat solves a lot of problems.

(English, Dutch with DeepL Translator)

And what about animal rights (that was the initial question)? For sure intensive agriculture kills animals but the question here is probably more about how to kill in slaughters, what about the chickens and their life, etc.

to eat meat and fish or else it would disappear, forced climate.
Once again I find it invigorating to draw inspiration from ancestral societies.
or firsts. These societies showed immense respect for the nature that nourished them.
Animals, like humans, are therefore entitled to respect and to die with dignity.
For example, the French state has only recently recognised animals as sentient beings.
Previously, these animals were legally considered to be living machines that
reacted to stimuli and the suffering of these objects should not be taken into account.
I believe that fish are still regarded as objects under European law.
because if they were considered sentient beings, industrial fishing
would be affected because it does not take into account the suffering.

of primeurs.

[deepL] I am very uncomfortable with the argument of the environmental consequences of meat production/consumption. Even though the environmental issue is now more urgent than it was then, I don't think Auschwitz was closed down because of the smoke emissions.

I still have the impression that, regardless of the reasons put forward, there is a semblance of consensus on the need to reduce meat consumption, and the obstacle is: how do we get there? By encouraging more appropriate diets? Or by banning/punishing meat consumption?

There are human groups that are so pacifist as to try only to eat fruit and grains (so the seeds, which are not yet alive or dead). All very nice, but then how can one justify taking antibiotics? If we keep it coherent and simple it should be easy to explain we respect all dietary choices.

** Could you share your thoughts (and add or amend it on the pad) on the below additional points? **

Pirates accept that human beings are just part of a food chain and acknowledge human dietary needs are those of omnivorous creatures. Also, Pirates understand that as part of a food chain, a part of our purpose is to consume other living beings, in order to keep alive.

We totally respect human being's dietary choices, which includes the wish to abstain from eating animals. On the other hand, Pirates we do not condone attempts to impose dietary norms to groups or individuals. Dietary choices are a human right.

Last, but not least, Pirates do not condone cannibalism as a dietary choice.

English (DeepL translator)
How can we achieve a reduction in meat consumption?
In my opinion, there is only one way to achieve this: through education in the broadest sense.
Education in the broadest sense is education for all people, regardless of age.
It must therefore go beyond the school context.
It is a health education that encompasses all aspects of life.
and not just to sausage education in different subjects whose nutrition would be the most important.
a branch. An education that would not be Soviet-style re-education
in specialized camps.
This education already exists in an embryonic form.
So it is a method of meditation that I call "medical meditation".
It has several names, the most common of which is "meditation of the full consciousness".
It is provided by doctors or psychologists. IT is a program
in eight weeks of learning the basics.
With regard to food, a specific meditation program in 8 weeks.
was concotted to relearn how to eat.
These programs also have a political aim materialized by the non-profit organization "Emergences".
This is about changing yourself before you want to impose changes on others.
Basically, it's about learning to be happy. To do this, it is enough to be fully conscious
what's going on in and around us.
Once we have succeeded in transforming ourselves in this way, we still have to shine as brightly as possible.
one can and contaminate one's surroundings.

in gespecialiseerde kampen.
IT is een programma
