They come with an agreement with Lenovo, now after criticism it is all a RAID driver issue that is not available for Linux. But the why don't they make it available, or the necessary information so it can be easily implemented by the Open Community.

On the other hand, see how Microsoft acts, like cancer, it really love's open source and Linux, hiding behind a mask of good Samaritan it brings bash to Windows and Powershell to Linux. Promoting again its semi-open, closed monstrosity products.

Nevertheless stay away from Signature Edition machines, there are many other options.

In the end i am sure , the community will reverse engineer and have a driver for those machines too. But why go buy something like this on the first place? By declining it, it will lose the potential, of other vendors acting in similar ways with MS.

The bad guy here is mostly Intel, not Microsoft. At least according to Mathew Garret.

As someone suggested in the comments to the LWN story, this is probably an indication to the fact that the respective Intel disk controller has scary hardware / firmware issues and that Intel thus is too scared to publish proper information about them.
