International research on Pirate Parties in Europe : call for volunteers for a survey

RVE Renaud Van Eeckhout Public Seen by 32

Hello, we received that email at our generic email address. I volunteered, but if other pirates also volunteer we can share the work. Also, you might have more insight than I have :)

Dear Pirate Party of Belgium,

We are writing you on behalf of our international research project on Pirate Parties in Europe. Our research aims to investigate how Pirate Parties collaborate and communicate among themselves. Besides scholarly contribution, we believe the results of our analysis could also be of use to European Pirate Parties, providing them with an insight into the “European pirate network”, channels of communication and international cooperation possibilities.

As a part of this research, we are asking a total of 18 Pirate Parties from all over Europe to participate in our analysis. Since the Pirate Party of Belgium has been selected as one of those parties, we would like to kindly ask you to contribute to our research and provide us with your unique and much needed perspective. In order for our analysis to be informative and given the limited size of our sample, it is crucial to obtain data from all the selected parties, including the Belgian Pirate Party.

As it stands, we would need a contact on the person from your party that you think is the most relevant to answer questions about international connections of your party (it might be, e.g. a person responsible for foreign policy agenda, an elected member in international structures such as the EU or the Pirate Parties International, person, who is in charge with the communication with other Pirate Parties etc.). This person will be given a survey to be fulfilled online. If possible, we would also appreciate contacts on more people, as the survey can be fulfilled by a group of your Pirate Party members.

If you have any questions regarding the research, feel free to contact us on [mail on request].

We hope you will help us better understand the connections among Pirate Parties and the “pirate network” in Europe and thus provide the European Pirate Parties with an insight into the international dimension of their work with the possibility of strengthening such dimension.

Best regards,

Adam Folvarčný (Masaryk University)

Mirek Tobiáš Hošman (University of Bologna)

Hello,

@Ilja and myself just finished the survey. You can find all the questions, our answers and a few comments on this pad : https://pad.parley.be/p/survey-november2020

Hello,

Two people have edited the pad since I posted it here two days ago. It's strange to do that, because I shared the pad so anyone could see what are the answers that we sent to the researchers. Plus some of the edits are some random personal comments and/or not answering the questions asked anyway...

So for those who just want to see the answers, here is a link of the pad BEFORE these edits were made : https://pad.parley.be/p/survey-november2020/timeslider#819

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but our part of the survey is finished, the pad is just so you know what Ilja and I answered (as we were the only 2 who volunteered when I made the call 1 month ago). And we answered with the information that was available to us.
