GSOC 2018 Participation
We have a group of volunteers interested in leading osgeo participation in google summer of code.
So we are writing to the Board to update you about the composition of the admin team for 2018 edition and to formally receive mandate to act on behalf of OSGeo, applying for GSoC 2018. The members of the admin team for 2018 are:
- Florin-Daniel Cioloboc,
- Werner Macho,
- Helmut Kudrnovsky,
- Jeff McKenna,
- Margherita Di Leo,
- Anne Ghisla (as emeritus - will offer guidance and advise in case of need)
This thread is to review our participation in GSOC plans for 2018.

If GSoC is a committee, then Board approval is not needed to bring in more committee members...

ok, it is clear from the mailing list posts that GSoC is not a committee and wishes to remain an initiative.

I note our 2018 budget included 3,000 USD to support these activities.
It may be a good idea to realize this mandate as a committee - rather than a yearly initiative. Advantage would be accountability for annual budget, wider mandate to identify and participate in student outreach programs like GSOC, Google Code-In, Facebook Open Academy, etc...
