Update: Welcoming & Guiding in OuiShare // Community Resources

F Francesca Public Seen by 114

I've been receiving an increased amount of questions around welcoming & guiding of new Ouishare members in the last weeks, so it seems like it is needed to give a short update and reminder on what resources we have at our disposal, to do this -- now that we have distributed the activitiy of welcoming & guiding (which means that there is no single person or group in charge doing this).

Earlier this year, Jocelyn did some work to create some basic introductory materials for welcoming & guiding new OuiShare members that you can use. I just took the time to do a quick review of them and make some tweeks to our wiki, so that these should now be ready to use:

Community Resources on the Wiki

I've just reviewed our Wiki landing page, as well as our Members & Connectors Toolkit where you can find many practical resources.

To specifically know more about Welcoming & Guiding, check the Community Connectors Hub for useful links such as:

ping @claudinerevol1 @davidwe @elenagiroli @anamanli @alexmtl @asmaaguedira @eha this should be useful for you in the future :)

Please comment below: are these resources useful? Is the wiki page understandable? These pages are your references for information on daily basis that you need to work with, so we all need to feel like they serve this purpose well (and if they don't, change them!).

And as you all know: the wiki is made to be actively used by all of you, so if there is anything missing, wrong, or you have ideas for new things that need to be added, please just go ahead and edit!

Lastly: if you see a big amount of work in this area that you feel is critical and you would like to take on, don't hesitate to propose a bucket on cobudget for this activity.

Thank you @francesca for this work! Looks pretty clear to me... I'm not sure the wiki is the most "user friendly" interface to access the info (looks like a huge amount of info a bit hard to digest sometimes, but that's the wiki style anyway ;-)), but the info is there and it does the job! Cheers :-)

yeah, I know its not super user friendly, but that is all we have for now unfortunately :). We've tried to turn it into a media wiki to be able to integrate photos, but nobody has been able to figure this out for us yet, and we have not prioritized it in terms of budget in the past.

But if we get a lot of feedback that is confusing, we can always think about trying other platforms in the future!

hello @francesca. As I'm a new member, I can give you my feed back. At first, it's the first time I see the wiki page. I didn't find the link on ouishare website. So I read it now. Congratulation for all of the work the community 've done. According to me, even if the content is clear (I suppose also for french people who are not confortable with english language), to map ouishare in a global form is quite difficult for me (I have a look to metamap). I think it would be performed for the new members far from Ouishare's world. An infography map as example is attached. See you soon !

Actually @mahegoguillon I had the same idea about a visual process like that, but I don't see any tool which is collaborative to do that... do you know? I was thinking about a prezi maybe, but not sure it's user friendly enough... But I agree it's a good idea!

Hi Myriam ! Nice to meet you :-). No I don't know a collaborative tool for that. In the example, what I wanted to show is the way of the message and information are built. I found it interesting.

Thank you @francesca for this post and @jocelynibarra and others for this valuable content.

As I mention to you Fran, I would like to create a new support aggregating all this awesome content in A User Friendly Way and from the New Ones Point of View with a Step by Step Companion guide/program to embrace all the potential of this content.

So This project don't aimed to invent the wheel, but to complete this content and to make it clearer, affordable to ancien and new members/connectors with eventually automated actions under one URL/site.

I imagine this project in different steps :

  • First step:
  • Workshop based on Google Design Sprint to design the user funnel, which informations in which order, etc.
  • Illustrations
  • Focus on new members
  • Then we can add other steps, like:
  • Became a Connector
  • Communities
  • your idea?

Any objections ?
This is also a call for contribution. Who would like to help?

Thank you @francesca .Very useful. I wish I had been aware when I joined early this year :) It is a good start and a good overview.
But there is nothing greater than experience !
