Hi Everyone (it's Paul, not a bot!)

Well here we are in this different space!

Please take a moment to remind/let the group know a bit about who you are below:

  • What's drawn you here and what would you like people to know about you?
  • What particular aspect of our work do you have energy for, or are you curious about?
  • How will you get the most out of participating in this virtual space?
  • Anything else you'd like to share?

If you can bear it, please post a photo on your profile....and remember you can adjust your email settings in the bar on the left to ensure this system send you the alerts you want.

Finally, please do feel free to start any new discussion, or make a proposal that you feel serves our mission. Give it a clear frame, and as the originator, please periodically make links between yours and other threads so that we can all spark off each other and stay connected.

Let's see how we go with this!

Hi Jake thanks for your post! (and to Sarah for directing you to us) @Jane Lesley Morris would you and others with experience be able to offer any tips or do's and don'ts to Jake for this stage of his project? Jake I would direct you to the Principles for forest gardening in community spaces that we created together. If you'd like to send a paragraph about the garden - why it was started by whom and how it's resourced we can feature you on our Community Forest Garden Map And if you haven't already, please join us as a member (button on the front page). 🙂

Hi everyone

I had this group recommended to me by Sarah Hodgkiss, who has been very helpful so far, thanks Sarah!

I don't have much practical experience yet but I am currently forming a steering group to create a community forest garden on a patch of land in Tutbury, a village near Burton upon Trent.

We are looking to have a few different areas on a 2 acre site. Likely a forest garden, a native species wildlife forest, a community orchard and some raised beds. Plus some ornamental planting on the periphery and some transitional meadow / wildflower areas.

We have Forest Harvest on board to help us with design and have a good start with the landowners so far.

I've joined here to gain from your experience, connect with like minded/ shared interests people and hopefully share more of our project as we progress.

Thanks

Jake

Hi Everyone,

I’m still trying to navigate my way around this site, but it’s seems this may be the best place to introduce myself. I’m an Accident and Emergency doctor, but unusually I work both in hospital and across primary care, working across traditional boundaries, deliberately seeking opportunities to work in what can be slightly messy interface/transition zones. I love nature, and although I’m new to forest gardening, I suspect that I have been living (or at least thinking) the underpinning principles of forest gardening for many years, at least to some extent. I see man as being an integral part of nature and as such, by working with and learning from nature, rather than attempted to control it, we will find a route to a more connected and sustainable ecosystem. I feel there is so much to learn from the patterns, interactions , complexity and adaptability of the natural world that for me seem to resonate with much of my family and work life. The more I learn about Forest Gardening the more it feels like a ‘Coming home.’ On a practical level, I’m off the the hospital site today, with a few others, to scout out a potential forest garden site!

Hi Steve what an amazing list of resources. While I'm sure many here will be familiar with some of these, perhaps not all. Thank you for taking the time to offer all this. I'm sure this will add richly to our Forest garden in a Box page coming shortly to the website. 🙏
