Good review, I'd like to read the book. One of the most painful things about being fully AWARE of what's happening in the world is watching it slowly unfold. Like watching a train wreck or airplane crash in slow motion. And not being able to convince other people that it's happening...

Thanks Pamela - Seems to be human nature to need big wake up calls, and it's coming. NZ may have not suffered as many other countries have.... so far but the signs are definitely coming thick and fast right now.

Jane Kelsey adopts the useful role of critic here, and doesn't set out to outline alternatives. (Naomi Klein takes the same role in 'This changes Everything'). For altenatives see the classic Herman Daly text 'For the Common Good' and Peter Victor's 'Managing without Growth', and 'Ecological Economics' by Herman Daly and Josh Farley.
