Platinum sponsorship for FOSS4G 2018
We discussed about sponsoring with the FOSS4G team and in the board and could support more people to come to FOSS4G with a Platinum sponsoring.

Would prefer to have gold sponsorship to secure space and provide additional funds to the TGP. Do we need to modify this motion to adjust the budget also?

I am voting yes to support FOSS4G in Africa but I think that being a sponsor for our own conference fundamentally changes how we operate (see discussion on FOSS4G2017 sponsorship) and may have consequences for code sprints and other support

OSGeo should be the top-level of its own conference; in terms of "sponsorship" in this case, that means the top-level "Tanzanite". Maybe LOC can use some of our top-level "Tanzanite" funding for the video processing and sharing of talks.

So we have a firm -1 from @jmckenna, should we discuss here or on the board mailing list.
Both Jeff and I have a hesitation on strategy, rather than supporting the event. I do not mind how we support the event only that we have an strategy.

With respect to video processing one idea (in the same spirit as TGP) is to have OSGeo take on this responsibility year to year ... to avoid asking so much of the LOC committee. The usual caution applies, good ideas without a volunteer remain just that ... a good idea.

Please interpret my public vote as a "-1" (see Board Voting procedure at https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Voting_Procedure), where I have disagreed but also suggested an alternative solution. I feel that the OSGeo Board can provide the top-level sponsorship, since it is OSGeo's event, so that the LOC can apply those funds as they choose (such as video recording & processing).

@jmckenna please change your vote to "Block" in order to match the "-1" vote from our procedures (which is the blocking vote). "Disagree" in Loomio is similar to "-0"
