Container for the camp near site

XD xavier dubruille Public Seen by 91

Hi, it s an idea i spoke about last year with a lot of camp but considering we re not changing site in the next few years, could it make more sense for all the camps to get a container and put it in the quarry provided for us by the owner Alex?
I didn t work the cost so far, i m just probing the viability of the project, I for sure with my camp would see that as an opportunity to reduce the cost in the long term and to be more carbon neutral each year.

Of course there are also cons to these project (difficulty of access during the rest of the year mainly) but we can discuss here about it.

Seems like a sensible idea.

As a rough guide to costs, I paid £1800 for a 20' container in very good condition a couple of years ago. It then cost me £100 to transport to a site only a few miles away (it was moved as a minor job at the end of the day so I didn't have to pay for a whole day's hire of the truck).

Actual costs are likely to be very dependent on local availability of containers and transport.

That's a lot of containers

ok to precise following the previous comment, it would be one container shared between all the camp, a system of price depending of the surface used would be organized

If I remember rightly, we currently use 2 containers in the quarry for infrastructure kind of stuff. But if the camps have stuff that would only get used for NEST and are likely to use it every year it makes sense.

No there is only one but a massive one, the location on site doesnt depend on the size so instead of 2 small, the core decide for only a big one. Trust me i know

Wasn't the main issue being that several camps use their infrastructure for multiple events (Midsummers, Nowhere, Borderland, XR) throughout the year, so couldn't keep it in Devon?

Yes but not for every camp and maybe having one on site can reduce the amount of stuff moved everytime like does crumpet always use its massive tent all year long? Maybe yesactually but if not, having a storage on site can allow to have only a small van leaving the site instead of a proper one. Anyway this topis is here to discuss

Great idea to have another container in the quarry reducing cost and carbon footprint. Unfortunately the container that is used by the core team is a one off at this stage and it is not being made available for anymore containers for multiple reasons. Sorry to disappoint Xavier. 🙁

Ah damn you resist me again :p ok joke aside, i undrstand. My presumptions were based on a discussion the first year about that but my source at the time should have been wrong.

But is this wrong to assume that any farmer next to your place wouldnt be interested in these deal?

Anyway it is an interesting idea to discuss so i don t give up on it.
