How do we enforce accountability?

P pospi Public Seen by 198

Having Trello set up to track tasks, assign people to jobs & set due dates should be a great start with this. What else do we think may be needed?

My role will be to remind in the first instance. Let me know the accountability reminder method that works for you (eg phone calls, Telegram, sms, email).

we all need to adopt an ethos of making each other accountable - like Sun has been doing when he is round. having a policeman to make sure you do something you have committed to is taking the control and agency away from us but sometimes with busy lives that is what is needed even though intrinsic actions are much more desirable, extrinsic motivations do also work if we are not too sensitive about having our slackness pointed out.

I'm going to agree with this for now, but I'd like to also stress what Dean said and downplay Monique's role here. "To remind in the first instance" should be all that is necessary- it should not be seen as "Monique's job to remind people"; we should all be reminding each other and keeping on top of tasks as a team.

The most I could do is look at the actions recorded from our meetings and set myself a reminder to remind others. I won't be nagging people. It is really important therefore to record who is responsible for which actions and when they are due. I am happy to keep a summary of actions and attach a spreadsheet template which may assist.

Here is the action list and status update for the apartments. Please put this on the ELF communal google page for others to insert actions, responsibilities and due dates. Then I will set my reminders and be able to remind others.

I’m not convinced about Trello as it is basically an assignable task list with out the ability to track time lines or resources. I think we may be better off to have simple conventional project management tools preferably open source ones but if that they any possible maybe even ms project even though I despise ms it does work well

Hi Dean, like I said- Trello is an interim measure and Tom and I chose it because of its ease of use. If you think there are better tools out there that it is reasonable to train everyone in the use of then please feel free to suggest them. If there are things you feel are needed to make your job of managing the property easier, then please communicate what your pain points are and we can workshop ways to solve them. I don't see anyone else having actually gone on to Trello yet and assigned themselves to jobs, so until we have actually made an attempt to use the software we can't really judge in which ways it is working, can we? No doubt there will always be a better tool but if we keep shutting down trying new things because of that then we will never get anywhere. The major problem right now is accountability, not time & resource tracking; and I think Trello would assist with this greatly if we could all give it a chance. If you want to address resource tracking separately to accountability then I think we should make a new thread for that as I think they are related but distinct.
