Buying a New Comp Set

EB Erik Boyd Public Seen by 8

Alright folks, at today's meeting we discussed purchasing another set of competition weights. Here were the details of that discussion:

-We want to ensure the second set does not get lost
-It would be a quick win for the LWC to help us to more effectively enforce the standards we wish to set, and also to have a nice, brand new set for our new, reinvigorated LWC Championships.
-As of current, the precedent is that the first set stays at President’s gym
-We are looking to set a standard for the sets so that they don't get misplaced.
-Should we set the rule above (set 1 at president's gym) in stone?
-Does the suggestion of the second set being at the Vice President’s gym make sense?
-Looking towards the future, might we consider a third set (possibly held at Takano’s gym)?
-Should we go with Eleiko, Rogue, or another company?
-Setting standards for broken or missing equipment (suggested possibility at the meeting was that it was the responsibility of last user and replacement is at the cost of the last user).

Let's discuss all of this with the objective of determining some, or all, of the below:

-Should we purchase a set?
-What set should we go with?
-Where should it be housed?
-What sort of system (ie: a ledger for tracking and ensuring the quality of the equipment) should be put in place to regulate the set?

I think We have a great oppurtunity to maybe purchase a full set at Youth Worlds in Vegas.

i think we need to figure out how big mile wise the LWC is, maybe break it down into 3 sections and then purchase 2 more sets, as we can prob get a good deal on 2 sets as Ben mentioned above from Youth worlds, I think a host gym should not have to drive any more than 50 miles in order to pick up a set, san diego, orange county-Inland Empire, and LA area ....1 ,2 ,3

We can even go through Eleiko or Rogue? I have a few good connections at eleiko i can message if we decide to go through with this.

If you could find out what the Cost would be to get maybe 1 or 2 sets from Las Vegas then i say hell ya. I think getting 2 sets now has its merits

That might not be a bad idea. I guess we mostly just need to figure out:
1. What will the primary purpose of the comp set(s) be (ie: maybe going for higher quality for the purpose of our LWC and eventually star championships means Eleiko is the better option, or maybe we want to budget for other things and so a more economical set would suffice)?
2. When do we need to have them?
3. Related to 1, what are we willing to pay?

Good Questions. I think Having 2-3 High Quality Sets will not only help raise the quality of the meet but can also provide our LWC athletes with the chance to lift on an Eleiko or Rogue Bearing bar. Lots of gyms can not afford these types of things.

As for timeline, I think we were to purchase 1-2 more sets in the next few months its a easy win for the LWC and shows we have been doing things. This will also allow the LWC to possible run 1-3 platform Meets.

Price is always a concern and i know we can get a full on rogue set with 2 bearing bars its $3,130 + tax and shipping. No Idea what the Cost would be of a eleiko set through Pomps connection but i bet it could be close.

Yea man we can get quotes on it, maybe also ask Phil if rogue would give us a discount on them since they are the official supplier of USAW i'm sure they will do something for us since its not for the actual club its to benefit our LWC at a whole, if anything its good marketing for them to have more lifters use there barbell. I will message Phil right now and see what he says.

But yes we can run 2 platform comps! when i went to texas for there state champs they ran 2 platforms and it was awesome!

I am on board with Rogue, but just to throw it out there, the Uesaka rep told me that they are providing all the equipment for youth worlds, and we will be able to purchase comp sets for very cheap & save on shipping costs. what are your thoughts?

I mean, if we can get a good price on it, why not? When is youth worlds btw? Maybe we can get quotes from each and figure out what will be the cheapest, and also determine what quality will be necessary.
