A.C.O.R.N.S

C Captain Public Seen by 193

I need some help:

I have a directory named SCT.
In it, I have some notes, but I need to name the thing.

Coops = Pine trees = Acorns.

A.C.O.R.N.S = ????

After messing with it, I have;

Any Cooperative's Own Resource & Networking Service

1: Thoughts on the name?
2: Variations of ACORNS?

I love me a good seed metaphor... Are you proposing to make this our public facing repo? I sometimes like to wait and see if a name pops out while building a tool, but if you wanna make a repo, gotta call it something...

Technically it is oak trees that make acorns. And ACORN is an org already, one that was involved in that weird video scandal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACORN_2009_undercover_videos_controversy

None of which necessarily means the name is bad, but those were my first associations. If we stick with ACORNS, maybe A could be "Autonomous" instead of "Any"?

Just brainstorming...
cones (cooperatively owned network of electronic systems?)
kernels (Keepers of Engineered Resources for Networks of...)
beans (building equitable autonomy networks)

Name also depends on exactly what we are making, which so far is a bit unclear :sweat_smile:

Holy turdstorm, Batman! That article is harrowing. 40yrs of work undone by false video, a media that just wants to report -something-, and legislation passed from a high level without any regard to the facts of the low. Terrifying for an ACORN.

Oaks have the monopoly? Curses. New acronym. I like the potential of cones/kernels/beans. A clever acronym just gets me, I guess.

Are you proposing to make this our public facing repo?

I wasn't really sure what to call 'the thing'. It seems presumptuous to just make a SCT org and ACORNS repo, especially with the poor besmirched history of the name (a shame, I liked it, too).

In my head I imagined SCT building what it could using FOSS that applies. I'm not sure what others have envisioned for SCT/future... but I see there's a thread for that! I'll go make some introductions.

PS: I'd be willing to at least make the org on GitLab.
