Online worker co-op weekend?

[edit]
I've updated the worker co-op weekend events page to start promoting

[edit] - Working document to plan what sessions/spaces we host is here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PxeLHrjYu05gPFu1-_4uP0MHR8dtP4SRHSMUELDO5S0/edit?usp=sharing

So we had to cancel the worker co-op weekend for obvious reasons. The Worker Co-op Council discussed whether we should do "something" online that weekend, should we? If so what, and who is up for helping!

Co-ops UK is happy to host sessions (we have corporate accounts for Zoom, go-to-meeting etc) and pull it together the overall programme to co-ordinate. What we need are creative ideas to help people connect and share, and to run those spaces/sessions whatever they look like.

I've put some suggestions below to get us started but the council are really after creative suggestions that can be done online. This won't be 5 hours all on zoom together, so think out of the box.

Suggestions:

  • We host a series of "spaces" at various time on Friday 15th & Sat 16th May and pull these together into a programme people can dip-in and out of.

  • These spaces could be:

    • Collaboratively created documents using your platform of choice that could be purely for fun, art or to build useful resources to share learning.

    • A 'few' lectures delivered through webinars, interested in topics that would be of interest.

    • Smaller group facilitated conversations

    • Matchmaking so people can have 1-2-1 chats.

    • Other ideas??

I'm posting this here and the facebook page just to get something started and test demand. If there is, i'm open to suggestion on how to co-ordinate this online. If no better suggestions come forward my plan is to:

  • Create a shared google doc to bring together suggestions and confirmed sessions, who is running them and to co-ordinate timings into a programme.

  • Once we have some ideas and volunteers I suggest they work out their own way to co-create their session with other willing to help.

So if your interested in running a session or space, have a great idea for one or just want to generally help out with others session. Post a comment

If you think this is a great idea and just want to attend just post a thumbs up/heart emoji.

@katewhittle I'm not sure whether folk will be zoomed out of not - guess that depends on what they choose to attend. Some sort of wind up sounds good. I was hoping we could have used the Open Space instead of an agenda of discussions/workshops. Why second guess what people want to talk about/share/learn when Open Space allows them to create the agenda themselves? Maybe another year - in person or online!

yep by all means do that and change it (use the same zoom link though)

I'm having second thoughts about the session I proposed at 3pm Saturday. Wondering if people will be totally zoomed out by then, and not so keen on another 'content' session? Maybe a wind-up open space session would work better at that time? I see @Matthew (Rhizome) suggested it already?

by all means do on the Saturday but it will be pusshing it for marekting as we won't be sending much more out so you will have to do your own marketing now if you want good numbers, but go for it

Is there still time to add something in to the Saturday? I think we are looking for max 30 minutes slot as we will be launching a big new campaign on that day. I noticed some of the Saturday sessions have disappeared from the live doc since yesterday - was this on purpose?

So with a week to go we have a pretty final programme with registration links active.
So go wild and promote sessions you think are particuarly interesting to your networks and get people to register, its all free so thanks for those hosting and facilitating sessions.

Hi John,

On reflection, Andrew Bibby and I don't have any spare capacity
to take ownership of any workshops and organise before 15th, but
I'll be happy to take part on the weekend.

We have now firmed up 5 sessions on the Friday so if you want to add more on the Friday or preferably Saturday go for it. I've also updated the events page on uk.coop so you can promote either that or the google doc, to start raising awareness.
