Stephan Mahood (May First / Peoples Link and Cyberiunions) – What kind of tools and why?

Informal labour and grassroots (self-)organising with digital tools

It is a part of an un-funded, un-paid, volunteer, so free libre and open source work in progress. The event is designed as a kick off for a longer term collaborative series of spaces that combine online and grounded meetings, and that are committed to cross network and fertilise between similar efforts of strategy and vision development for labour's and working classes' transnational reinvention.

People Links – is a monthly online gathering hosted by May First/People Link members, for members and open to the public: https://mayfirst.org/peoplelinks

Join us on May 29th from 6-7pm EST and 5-6 MXN to discuss what's going on with net neutrality (that is, the current way data is treated online - without privileging premium users or content). The FCC has recently put forward legislation that will make the internet resemble a toll highway, with the fastest speeds offered at the highest prices. Is this a done deal? And what does this mean for how we use the web?

Joseph Torres from media reform organization Free Press, will talk with May First founder and Leadership Committee member, Alfredo Lopez.

About Joseph Torres
Joseph Torres advocates in Washington to ensure that our nation's media policies serve the public interest and builds coalitions to broaden the media reform movement's base. He is Senior External Affairs Director of Free Press. Joseph writes frequently on media and Internet issues and is the co-author of the New York Times bestseller News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media.

About Alfredo López
Alfredo is a founder of May First/People Link and currently a member of its Leadership Committee. The author of six published books and currently a columnist for This Can't Be Happening (http://thiscantbehappening.net/, he has spent much of his recent time networking on issues of Internet freedom and protection.

I think Go2Meeting is the one that gives me trouble; there are so many options/things that work or don’t work with one system or another.
