As we're moving and improving our infra, I'd like to submit a proposal of creation of wiki-family and a workflow organization for documentation.

  • core: the master wiki, with restricted editions to trusted people.
  • pool: the media wiki, used for all content uploading (images/video/documents)
  • en/it/de: languages (Free to all)

The idea is to have open (as much as possible, with of course protection against spam, vandalism etc) language wiki where people are free to write articles in their own language. We should also have some way to tag or rate pages so that some good page can be seen as interesting and be tagged as "to be moved in core wiki.

A page in core wiki need to be (well) written in english, and translated page are depending on the english page. Modifications should happen not so often, and page in it have to be up to date. Rather have quality than quantity.

If a page become useless in the wiki core, it should be moved back in the free (language) wikis.

The idea of dividing it up sounds good to me. I think we should at the least require registration and logging in, as we don't want anonymous edits.

Why not. I have quickly read this doc:

I just wonder how much work we will need to maintain this.

Sounds a bit complicated, but in fact should be convenient:)

@jclvanier I started to work on it and imho it's much more simple to maintain that it looks at first glance :)
It mainly needs good organization.

I like this it. Presumably we could review the page counters in language wikis to make a decision about what was promoted to core. Would new articles in the language wikis be translate to the other languages?

Looking at your PHP script, I was of the thought that you'd already configured a single "uploads" folder for all languages. Isn't that the case?

Well, it's not an obligation. It's not related directly to my php script, but more to the overall complication of media flow management which become far more complicated when there is a shared pool. Of course, there are also advantages, but imho it's more a constraint... @anuragbhandari wdyt?

@raphaeljadot As long as it's as easy maintaining a single pool of uploads as it appears in your PHP script, I'm in for it as I see not much difference between a single and a per-language uploads folder. But in case setting up per-language pools is easier, we should do that.
