I know a little bit about geospatial standards. The value of geospatial data increases where best practices (standards) are followed; use them for managing both geospatial data and geospatial services (even governance). Some aspirations, like the benefits of wide interoperability, will not be achievable without standardisation. Standards are enablers. They are also assets that need nurturing too (maintenance).

Hi Everyone, I'm facilitating the forum and this work over the coming months. I've been working in a variety of geospatial roles including health, councils, government, the private sector and post-conflict environments. I'm interested in supporting the development of geospatial capability across government and have a particular interest in developing capability within Iwi Maori.

If you're seeing this and wondering "what on earth" please give me a call on 027 577 1797 and I'll be happy to discuss this work with you and how we can incorporate your contributions.

Hi Everyone. Most of you know me from my many years working at DOC and now my role in the Geospatial Research Institute at the University of Canterbury. I am particularly interested in areas of applied geospatial research, especially in non-traditional GIS areas. The GRI is working across a range of departments within the university as well as government and industry partners.

R&S benefit aspects are an area I'm not strong on at all so welcome to the group Wayne.

Hi, I have recently returned to NZ, after a lengthy spell in Brisbane. I have worked in most industries (private and public) in my career and have used most technologies to some degree.
I am currently focused on GIS for Emergency Management, Humanitarian Response and condition assessment (including vegetation encroachment on infrastructure).
I have a keen interest in developing and extending open-source solutions (e.g. Leaflet, QGIS) and the cloud (primarily AWS).
Looking forward to seeing this discussion (and group) progress.

Hi, I'm Kierin Mackenzie. I'm from Canada but I came to NZ to do a PhD (still in progress). My PhD currently focusses on alternative data models for spatiotemporal information. I do mapping of traditional knowledge, and have done work in this field in Canada and NZ. I tend to use QGIS because it is free and usually good enough.

Hi, I manage the Research & Evaluation group within Inland Revenue. We're starting to explore the use of GIS for data visualization and exploration, this will be a growth area for us over the coming year.

I am confident that Data analytics (predictive analytics and spatial analysis) will make the top ten.

I'm a Masters in Geographic Information Science student at the University of Canterbury, currently finishing up my thesis on using crowdsourcing to collect passenger feedback on public transport. I'm also very interested in cartography and geovisualization. Not sure what I hope to contribute here but happy to follow along and see.
